Two little ladies...

Hit a new park today... walked for quite a bit until I came upon an area that looked good (near a picnic area). I swear I wasn't there 5 minutes and I hit 2 mercs. One at around 8" (could only get a signal with an 8" coil in a very small area and only facing one direction); the other was relatively shallow, about 4 or 5" or so. Stayed there another 2 hours and could only come up with 2 wheaties. Go figure. :)

Good going Joe - they look to be in good shape. I have had times like that when the nearly first coin was the best all day. Your senses probably led you to the spot, Steve in so az

what I've been doing for quite some time now is this (when I'm in for a long hunt in a new spot). I look over the area to see where I would normally like to hunt first. Then I pick the last place I would normally hunt and start there. I simply work that area over, while getting closer and closer to what would have been my first place to hunt. My theory is, the place that looks least likely to be productive, "out of the way", or difficult to hunt is probably a place that either hasn't been hit or hasn't been hit as often. I found these two (and a wheatie) quite a distance away from the picnic area, closer to a walk path and some older trees. The first "positive" sign for me was that, while it was trashy, it wasn't as trashy as the area nearer the picnic area.

Love digging those mercs! :) WTG Joe!

You're right... the 8" can get some pretty good depth. In order to hear this target, I could only move the coil side to side about an inch. If I turned my body even a little, is disappeared. I had the Lesche Raptor blade buried so it had to be at least 8" down.
