Two new detectors and a water hunt...

Bavaria Mike

New member
Received my new detectors, an Ace 250 and a Fisher 1280 Aquanaut for water detecting. Also bought a few new accessories, beach scoop, 2 wet suits, floating sifter, shovel and an extra Vibraprobe 560. Here

Hi Bavaria Mike.
Well i started out water detecting back in 1979 as their were only 3 p.i. detectors brought into the country from the u.k. I first started out with a floating screen and a 7 mm wet suit and soon got rid of the floating screen. The problem with the sive its ok in calm water but as you get into ruff swell you have to chase it all over the place to dump your goodies. Another thing is to get your self a weight belt to compensate for the boyancy and then you will have purchase to be able to dig. The Easiest way is to just use your scoop and just check it each time you dig. The ultimate is to have a dry suit specially made to measure but you are looking at big bucks. Hope this can be a bit of help.

Great finds Mike! What do you think of the Fisher so far? Did you do much comparison shopping before selecting the Aquanaut? I have an XT50 and am thinking about getting a water detector for a nearby lake and see that the Fisher is much cheaper than the Excaliber.

Thanks,
Bart

I bought the 1280 because of price, ease of use and the battery life lasts a long time. I do not have many lakes to detect and salt water is too far away from me, LOL. It will not get a lot of use, would have bought the Excalibur if I could use the water detector more often. The only thing I do not like is the non detachable cheap headphones, they could have been a little better quality I think. HH, Mike

I will check into a weight belt, good idea! Not many waves in the small lakes I will be detecting. I used the floating sifter more as a finds holder and was checking the scoop. Was very warm in the wet suit considering the water temp was on the cooler side and the day temp was only 21C. Thanks and HH, Mike

Good on you for exploring the waters Mike I'm sure your gonna have heaps of fun and get some good finds in the proccess!
Cheers!
