Two nice surprises!

Well my old Garrett GTI 2500 just keeps plugging along. Here are the highlights from this great hunt. 3 1/2 hours. Two sites about 5 miles apart. Both older parks. Hot as heck and dry. Memories of last August. I was only detecting down to about 3-4 inches and that was good because in places the dirt was as hard as concrete.

A friend asked me to keep my trash from one typical hunt and post a photo. This is everything I dug today except for the items in photo 3. The coins are all down at the bottom of the strainer.

Here are the clad coins. Note I did not dig a quarter for over an hour and at the end of the hunt I found three coin spills with 2, 3, and 3 quarters along with a few other coins:

Now for the goodies. The 7th or 8th target was the 14k ladies gold band. I gave thanks to God. Rang up as a nickel and it was down 3 inches. Luckily I didn't hit it because I scratched more coins today than I have in a long time. Probably because of the difficult digging conditions. At site one I also got that cool small mini ball. Site 2 was wheat heaven and I had visions of silver coins but did not find any. 1927, 40, 53D 57. Can you see the damage I did to that 1957? I will return when the ground is not so dry. Then the Ladies Auxiliary pin. Who can tell me the organization off the top of their head? I said my usual 1 more coin and I'm done because my elbow was a bit sore. Copper cent signal at 3 inches. I managed a form of flap and reached my hand under. The 925 ring slipped right onto my finger, I kid you not. I think it's a topaz. Not a coin so on my way back to the truck I found about 3 more coins.

Les, If you're reading this we had pretty similar luck.

Today I hit 1/2 ounce of pure gold for the year. Nice!

Another Fab day!

Chris

My good luck continued when I found 6 coins in the Coinstar reject slot including a 1965 Canadian silver dime.

Note: There is a crushed junk ring in photo 2 that I only mention in case my other pal is looking in. I needn't mention his name.

Hard ground is no joke. At least the coins dont settle as deep Looks like some nice hard ground finds. Maybe its time for a small batterypack hammer chisel.

Wow, looks like you had a great day at the park.:super:

It's only like this up here for a few weeks during the summer. It just came a little early this year. A good soaking rain will straighten things out in a hurry. It does tire my arm out more quickly, though.

You're suggesting for the guy who has a hard time dealing with illegals to move to Florida? I was thinking New Mexico or Texas. :p You better watch out West Virginia is on my short list. How's things with the babies? Hoping you get out to do some hunting soon. You are doing the right thing.

I sure wish I had your silver coin to clad coin or even better yet your silver coin to wheat cent ratio.

I thought that when I replied.
I started work at a power plant as a pipe fitter. I asked why isn't the safety meetings bi lingual like they are in Fl.? I got some mean looks and the others didn't know what I was talking about. I could say they aren't very diversified, but that wouldn't be the truth. It is THEY AREN'T DIVERSIFIED!

I may be doing the right thing, but it's a lot of work. I'm too old for this. I love them though. It is not giving time to MD.

I have a friend who was just laid off while about 50 Guatamalans who are here on guest worker visas continue to work. He works at a printing plant and is one of the hardest working guys I know. I could write about 10,000 words to explain how this makes me feel but it would be filled with venom. I'll spare you.

Congratulations on the ring finds.. Looks good on your coins also, especially those quarters.

Looks like you had a good day!! nice finds but i have to ask you are you digging everything? i get a trash pile like that looking for nickles because my nickle ratio is very low verses may dime and penny finds.

Great day indeed, congrats on the rings and all the clad!!!

I dig most everything on most days. Yesterday I dug everything and that was all I managed. Three nickels. Did you look at photo 1? There are at least 25 pop tops and pull tabs in there. Add to that the bits of can and aluminum foil. That gold ring hit squarely on nickel too. Nice nickel eh?

I do not question if my coin ratios are out of littl whack like I used to. I figure I am fairly proficient and I figure what I dig represents what is actually buried at a particular site. Here is an interesting tid-bit. One of my best clad sites produces almost no pennies. Why? They have a big plexiglass box where the kids can toss their coins in for charity. Also at most schools there is nothing that is sold to the kids that requires payment or change of a penny.

I still think nickels are the hardest coins to find for three main reasons. One, they are not as widely circulated as other coins. Two, they have fairly low conductivity which makes them a tad more difficult to detect. Three, there are spots where I have to notch them out simply because of the volume of pop tops and trash in the ground.
