Two Scratchy Signal=Two Mercs

RLOH

Well-known member
Two days in a row at the same park and about 50 feet apart, I found two mercury dimes without the Explorer "warble". I always check the hole with either my pinpointer or detector when I don't get the classic silver signal. Both dimes gave a high right cursor, but not a clean signal. Yesterdays merc had two bread wire wrappers in the plug with the dime. That explains the fuzzy signal. Today's mercury came with a small(less than 1/2 inch rusty screw) in the plug.

The SE Pro can pick through the trash as long as you go real slow. Today I found only six coins(1 merc, 4 wheats, and 1 clad dime) I can't think of life without a FBS detector.

Rloh, Good job in sniffing out those highs in the mixed signals. Congratulations!

It’s all those “less than perfect signals” that we are all dealing with these days. Recognizing a “marginal signal that’s actually a coin” vs a “great sounding false” is the most important thing a coin hunter will ever do. It takes time, and it takes a strong trust in the FBS machines abilities. Put those two together and you almost can’t lose. Almost...
That’s nice work to know what’s going on.
