uMax or not uMax

Please pardon my ignorance, but somewhere on this site someone asked the question of whether or not a Tesoro Sidewinder was a uMax. The response to that question was 'I think they're all uMax'. Well, mine's not, or at least it's not marked uMax. Like I said I'm ignorant, so I'd really appreciate it if somebody could tell me what the difference is. David

I don't think there really is a difference in the 2 Sidewinders, except that the earlier Sidewinder had a1/8 headphone plug, and the lock nuts on the shaft were of the older style threaded alum.nut instead of the newer plastic. This itself may not be true of all of the older models, but is for some. As for internal differences, I have never heard of any, but if so I 'm sure we will hear more.

... at least for a while. I was a dealer for Tesoro back then and I liked the way interest in the new, light-weight Tesoro models sparked with hobbyists. No, they weren't all that deep, and no, they didn't out-perform all the competition, but at the time they gave us all a light-weight, handy-to-use detector.

As for the Sidewinder Vs Sidewinder

I appreciate the replies. That told me what I wanted to know. This is my second detector. The first was an IDX Classic with mods, and running over the same ground with both I was surprised, to say the least, at the left-overs picked up by the Sidewinder. If it gets better than the old Sidewinder (and I'm sure it does), it's gotta be good. I'm tickled to death with this one!
Thanks again, folks.
