Uncle Willy, Got A Question !!!

In all your years of metal detecting, have you ever used a Freedom Ace ( coin commander )?
A friend of mine just got one, and was asking me if it was a good detector,I don't know, I have never used one.
Thought if you or anybody on the forum has, maybe you all could share some information on it's performance.

Thanks in advance on info. Bernie

I've heard of it but never used one. It goes back a ways and the maker is probably no longer in business.. Give me some time and I'll try to look it up for you. I have about a 1000 old treasure magazines going back to 1961 and I'm sure that detector is advertised or written about in one of them.

Where did your friend get it and is there anyway you could post a pic of it or see who manufactured it. I remember the name but that's all I can pull out of the cobwebs in my head at this time.

iam not uncle willy but i can answer your question.the first freedom series was put out by Garrett in the late eighties i believe they had the old seven inch coils they were improved in the nineties with surfacemount tec and the eight inch crossfire coil used the first was the freedom ace like the ace 150 it had no pinpoint mode but was one of the beat starter units made.then the second was the freedom 1 cdc computer designed circuitry.the third in the series was the freedom 11 plus which had twin discrimination modes the third was the freedom three plus which had Garrett's own notch system.i think they were some of the best made but hard to change the three nine volt batteries as you had to take the case of car fully to replace them the nice thing about the older coin commander was that the batteries were in the back of the handle like the gta series i still have the freedom one cdc freedom 11 plus and freedom 111 plus and think they can still hold there own against the newer models.you might want to check with Garrett on the old coincommander i dont think they make the old seven inch coplaner coils anymore hope this helps you.good luck.

Bernie,

Ernie, might be right on. There is a user manual available for that Freedom Ace on the Garrett Site which you can download at the following link

Thanks for clearing that up bud. I couldn't remember that one and there was another detector made with a similar name way back in the seventies.
