unidentified metal

A few days ago i dug this small slab of metal, it looked like a hunk of melted lead but it was too hard. Today I hit it with a hammer until it broke in half and it has this really funky pattern to it. Anybody have any ideas? I don't think its a meteorite but perhaps someone tried to melt down a silver coin? I'm just guessing.

Good question Cup, I never gave it a thought but to answer your question, NO, it does not stick to a magnet. I'm thinking it might be a piece of aluminum slag from something that was tig welded but it feels heavier than aluminum.???????????????

There are lots of non-ferrus (no iron) metals that will not stick to a magnet.

Some are more valuable than others.

It will be interesting to know what you have there!

I don't remember exactly what site it was at bit it was in Eastern PA.

I've gone through all my books on Metals and I beleive you have a peace of Tungstan.Go to web elements and take a look for yourself and see what you think. webelements.com

Could be a lead mineral. It will be detected by a detector. Lead is heavy but there are many forms of lead. Go to this website (McRocks.com) and someone on there should be able to answer your question.
