Unknown Egyptian Clip Thing

I am completely stumped on this one. It was found at a site that only had activity from 1850-1878. My first thought was that it was a piece of a suspender clip, but the backing doesn't seem right for that. It appears that it attached to something, I just have no idea what. Hopefully someone here has some insight. Any information would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
 
My thoughts would be a small belt end clip.
 
Very interesting! Looks like tin? Magnetic? If so, it can't be super old, it would be rusted away. Stick a magnet to it and let us know.
