Unmarked Oval Plate

A friend of mine found this oval plate with no markings.Measures 2 1/2” x 3 1/2” with three missing attachment points on the back(unfilled).
Military or Civilian?

Virginia produced unmarked "sheet brass buckles ", the clipped corner and oval, in order to fill the need of many plates quickly in the Civil War. Your friends looks right for the period considering the rear attachments were soft soldered like the Va variants.
