Unusual Button... Help!

I found these in a small area, where all of the finds are early 19th century. They look like studs to me. I found them at a spot next to the two large Double Gilt buttons, an 1801 Draped Bust, a pocket watch and a smaller Gilt button that I found last year. It seems like the studs do not fit the time frame. Please help!

They did make flatties with attachment studs; I've seen a few like yours with both pieces. Have found the attachment stud but never the button part. Nice finds.
