A mini vacation.

Carol and I took Thursday off from work to take Brian to see the Ripley's Aquarium in Gatlinburg. It was the first full day we've had to spend together since Easter so it was like taking a vacation.
Brian was very apprehensive about going though.
How will I eat? We'll feed and give you your meds before we go in.
What if I get sick? You won't.
What if I need to go? They have restrooms.
After we parked, Brian ate while Carol and I loaded his wheelchair with his suction pump, medical and medicine bags. We purchased a new medical bag but it is too wide to hang on the handles like his old one, so we ended up carrying it.
I opened the doors to help Brian out of the van and he reached for me to give him a hug. He whispered..."Dad...thank you... for you and mom bringing me here."
We purchased our tickets and entered the aquarium and the first thing Brian noticed was the restrooms. He got sick. The poor guy emptied his stomach of the formula and medicine he had just taken. I was afraid he might start bleeding again, but thankfully, he didn't. Thinking our trip was over right after it started, I asked Brian if he thought he would be OK to continue and he shook his head yes and turned for the door.
We all had a great time. Brian put his gift (video camera) from The Dream Connection to good use filming the fish. When I have time we'll download the clips to his laptop and edit them.
Taking a break, Carol suggested we get Brian some Dip-in-Dots (one of his old favorites) and see if he could eat them. He took one bite and that was all he could handle. I imagine the super cold little pellets must have exploded with flavor on tastes buds that have only tasted water for the last 7 months. But...he tried!!
When we got home, around 7:30, he headed straight for bed. He said he was worn out and just wanted to be hooked up to his feeding machine and relax.
I added some pics from the trip to the photo gallery.
I'm already looking forward to our next mini-vacation.
