Upgraded from F-5 to F75 limited

Hello all,
I'm new to the site because I need to learn the F-75 limited. I have been using the F-5 for about 6 months and feel confident with its features. I bought a used F-75 and there is a lot of different features. I put on the 11" coil and I had nothing but noise even at the lowest sensitivity settings. I tried the 5" coil and it was only a little bit better. I read about resetting back to factory setting and that really helped. I'm not sure what I was doing wrong. Is there a setting a new user should be using to get use to the machine? I also compared the F-5 and the F-75 on my lawn where I spent hours. I picked up a few new hits with the F-75 and went back over them with the F-5 with no detection. The hits turned out to be newer pennies. I not sure when I should use the power boost feature on the machine. Another question is I see a lot of users talk about different disc settings, not sure what that means.
Thanks

Being new to the F 75, because it is so sensitive, the best settings are the factory pre-set. You have already reset it to the factory settings and those are the very best to use for several hours. 50 actually, isn't to many. I learned my original F 75 sweeping wood chip lots and school yards digging about everything that beeped. Read the manual, read the manual, and then read the manual again. There is a ton of info on the F 75 series on this forum and disc. is talked about many, many times. For the time being, though, stick with the factory pre-sets and just have fun. It is one great detector. HH jim tn

The F75 hits targets other detectors do not. The response recovery speed is so fast it has almost no nulling like other units have.

At first many thought their machine was defective when in fact it was doing exactly what it was designed to do. Fast recovery and hitting targets for you to further investigate.

Disc is Discrimination setting. I would say you could raise this setting some while doing mostly preset hunting..... Do some air tests using different junk items turning up the Disc till they do not respond..... When you feel your operating in the disc setting you want to be using..try that out on a hunt... The worst is you can reset back to factory 15 disc... Myself I use more in most places..many use less. It's all in your style....

If you are experienced in detecting then by all means do not be afraid to try some things when you have some hours logged in on preset..... If, and I say if, your getting interference this may be EMI
so your sensitivity may have to be turned down to allow detection of some areas. Do not worry about lower sens. The F75 will still go deep.

In today's electronic world EMI is present everywhere.......... Do not have your cell phone on when using the 75 ....... It will cause you some chatter issues if on.

Manual says power boost in taller grass areas.... De is the factory setting for normal detecting. That said many use BP all the time..Again preference and how much you want to hear ........

I, and I know Jim TN uses De mode a lot.. Yes we use BPmode but only when we have to have the coil higher off the ground. I'm not speaking for Jim.Just relating things he has mentioned to me in the past. He would have to tell you when and where he uses BP Power mode mostly.

Try shoulder to shoulder swings when you use the F75...... it works better and that is stated in the manual for sweeping the coil.

75ltd is amazing. Yes very sensitive, but when you get used to its sounds you will more likely, than not, know when you are dealing with a coin, etc. I know being on the surface is not the same, but just laying some coins on the ground and comparing them, will give you an idea on how they sound in the ground as opposed to some of the chatter you may be hearing. Of course, sometimes the smaller chirps are important and not to be ignored. There are some with machines of other makes that complain, the ltd picks up stuff too small, but I know I am amazed when it does, and realize I'd rather it pick it up rather than not. After a while you will know whats really small. I can tell you sometimes there might be a small broken diamond earring, and only the diamond set in the silver or gold foil, is all thats remains, and the ltd hits it, You wouldnt want it missing that. I agree with the advice above, and please all dont forget the frequency shift feature, I have been in situations where thats all it takes to calm it down. Have fun with this great machine. CO

I have wanted to post my findings on an occurrence that happened to me several times a couple years ago in regards to the Fisher F75 LTD, but I must give a little history beforehand.
I originally migrated from the Tesoro line of detectors to the Fisher series around 2008 mainly at the advice of a very special friend named Gene Scullion. Prior to Fisher coming out with the F75, he too had been a die-hard Tesoro user. Well any way I took his advice and purchased the F75 and my finds started to increase at a fantastic rate compared to what my Tesoro machine was finding. Within 3 months or so, I had found more silver than a total of 5 years prior with other machines. Well as time went on and Fisher developed the F75 LTD, I had the urge to trade up and did only to find a few areas where I had to turn the LTD down to 27-29 just to be able to hunt in any amount of stability. Now being a stickler for details and record keeping, I started recording each problem I thought I had with the LTD until I finally sent it back to the factory for a check-up. A few days later, a rep from Fisher called only to state that the machine met the entire defined test and that they could find nothing that would cause the problems I was seeing so they sent it back. Not being satisfied I began testing again and finally thought I had the solution, trade for a multi-frequency machine (Minelab) in hopes of correcting the ground and EMI problems I was experiencing, but shortly after receiving the new machine I realized I had the same problems, but in different ways. Now, 15 months later I want to report my findings on both machines.
Being good at math, I started with the sensitivity settings of the LTD.
At several hunting locations, I had to turn the LTD down to the range of 27-29 to hunt.
With the Minelab running in auto sensitivity, the machine settled in on 8 out of 30 and it was still a little unstable.

Doing the math on the LTD revealed a setting of 27 out of 99 was about 27% of the maximum sensitivity setting for this machine.

Now on the Minelab a sensitivity of 8 out of 30 was also 27% of the maximum sensitivity setting for the machine.

When I noticed the similarities, I realized the LTD was not the problem but a combination of both ground and area that caused my original problems.
Please keep in mind this comparison is only relative because the sensitivity setting between the two machine can't measure their performance in the field.
I can honestly say the Minelab has not found my deepest coin to date, but the LTD has. I could write many more comparisons, but for times sake I will stop right here.
Point to remember, when you are in an area and your machine acts up, there is a real world reason for the problem and the machine is conveying to you there is something wrong and it is up to you, to both listen and take action.

Thanks for the responses. I went out today to a local park and dug a lot of flip tops and cans. This was a newer park and I was not expecting to find much.
The F-75 on the factory setting ran well without a lot of chatter. I think I'm going to love this detector.
Thanks again!

Its a great detector. Just go out and have fun and slowly work your way into the other settings. It is a pretty easy detector to set up and hunt with. Just keep in mind that toning it down as need be will still find you lots of good targets. Have fun! HH jim tn
