US Coin (in Ground) Chart?

Sleepyjim

Member
I have about 10 diff freq charts for the US coins and I think they are "Air" numbers, Anyone got one for "in the ground"?

Curious, maybe one of these I got are, but the numbers all seem pretty close....

Jim I wonder the same thing! In fact I wished I had enough coins of quality to test bury to get those numbers.

Ladies and Gents,
Unless you plan on hunting tot lots, forget the charts. First on deep targets, Deus may or may not give a VDI. Second even if the Deus gives a VDI, it may be flawed due to depth/minerals, colocated nonferrous, or colocated iron. Listen to your tone. And have your tones set up correctly for the IHs and silver coins. A good general rule of thumb IMO when coin hunting with Deus is. And this can be applied to hunting in trash. Get the high tone look at your screen if it reads 70 or above on most sweeps dig, or if you get high tone and look at your screen and see a number of 15 or less, dig-could be a coin being masked by iron. Trying to use charts for digging coins with deus will cost you in the long run IMO. Running in 4khz may need to dig even lower #s.

What Squirrel said AND I can't stress enough to set your machine to your specific hunting conditions. My or everyone else's settings will not automatically work for your location! The Deus is easily adjustable while in the field. My only complaint while hunting with the Deus is what's left of my hearing SUCKS!

Sergei at Metal Detecting World has just what you are looking for under his Deus section.

I think he has Air tested, I am looking for actual in the ground.....

Did I miss it?

My input on this subject would of course not be the same as in the US as our coinage prior to milled coinage was never the same as the quality of say the silver could well give many different readings,as they would often say reduce the content and quality of the silver in our hammered coins,so basically this chart method of TID would not really work for me,as a result of this i rarely look for individual TID targets on the screen, this is the main reason that i use audio mainly rather than rely on the screen which can also sometimes give slightyly false information, but as i see it audio as so much more reliable and also after say about the 7''-8'' mark TID certainly becomes un-reliable.

If my machine give me a non ferrous signal i dig it,the bottom line is that i am using a metal detector and the main target/s that i am after are non ferrous ones, knocking out or notching out certain TID is in my mind asking for trouble ie if i was to not accept say silver foil i would stand a very high possibility of loosing out on very old hammered coins and other artifacts infact anything in the silver range could be knocked out.

Modern coinage in say aprks or tots lots you could do it i guess,i dont have a great amount of problems as such with bear bottle tops or ringpulls as all my sites are very old sites and ring pulls are a modern man made product,of course location does play a big part in this,if you mainly detect in inner cities, parks and play areas then of course you are mostly likely to come across all the modern day trash/rubbish as well.

I tend to run as little discrimination as possible and also try and run the sensitivity as high as possible, and dig everything that gives me a decent signal,a decent set of headphones is ultra important to me as you will have a much better chance of hearing those deep feint signals as usaully these are the best targets, but if i was just using say a el-cheapo set of headphones or rely on just looking at the screen then i could miss many decent targets.

This is of course just my opinion and thoughts on how i detect, the more time i spend refining my detecting techniques ie swing speed and less screen watching my finds increase by a massive amount.

I don't think that is what the OP is expecting myself. My understanding of these XP Deus' machines are that they are pretty much calibrated to Euro coinage. Yes we have some stds. on what a US coin would readout at but if we had an extensive one with maybe a way to simulate the depths in various soil types it would be great. It would be a huge undertaking to do this but if you think about it...............that is what this hobby is about. I just don't have a big enough coin collection to simulate it. Plus I live in one type of soil mainly here in NC (red mineralized clay with some parts of the area heavy in iron).

So I do think while we undertsand there is no definitive TID/VDI because there are so many little variables that can occur in the soil, it does give a somewhat idea of what to expect. I think if we tasked folks from different areas to do the test we could collect a pretty good database for Deus users to access. Just a thought for sure.
