:usaflag: Help!!Looking For a Detector That Ignores Nails!!

When I started the hobby of metal detecting, I bought what at that time was one of the finest detectors available the Whites 6000DI. I found my first gold ring using it and after many hours of searching had lots of silver, but no more gold.

I learned about water hunting and built a waterproof Plexiglas case so that I could use the detector as a water machine. That

.... In Virginia where the soil is very heavily mineralized with iron oxide, most VLF detectors don't get much depth and can't tell the difference between a nail and small non-ferrous items. The V3 got better depth than the other VLF units but more importantly, could tell the difference between small nails and small brass buttons. The discrimination would cancel out the small nail and sound off on the small non ferrous. Obviously, if you use no discrim, you'll be able to hear the nails ... but also hear the gold, silver, brass, etc and get a bit better depth. The V3 is a dry beach and land machine.

On our beaches here, I've found hairpins (bobby pins) give the same signal as extra small / extra deep gold, gold bracelets laying in a line. I would dig every hairpin to be able to find extra small extra deep gold and bracelets.

You may also consider the Beach Hunter ID300. The thresh hold tone nulls out and the red LED flickers on small nails, larger iron / steel gives a low tone and red LED, bobby pins and extra small / extra deep gold nulls out the thresh hold tone but the yellow LED flickers. Most gold jewelry gives a mid range tone with yellow LED, silver and coins give a high pitch tone and the blue/green LED light up. It's a great machine for on the beach and in water to 25 foot deep.

visit your local White's dealer and "test drive" the V3 and BHID300.

Thanks Ed for your reply,

I am also looking for a machine that can be used hunting very old yards with the usual scrap metal among those old coins.

I'll check out those for sure.

Best to Ya Friend,

CJ

It is great on nickles and buttons and this weekend impressed me with the silver finding capabilities. You can detect coins with nails on top of them. I had the Whites DFX prior to the X5 and although it was a great detector, the DFX did not compare in trashy areas to the X5. It also weighs 3.5 lbs.

Hey brandon,

I'm not familiar with the Troy machine.

Who makes it and where can I check it out?

Thanks Friend,

CJ
