That's as good as it gets in Connecticut in mid January and I wanted to get out in the water so bad I could hardly stand it!!

Off to the beach ready to hunt, but a westerly breeze had stirred up the water so that it would be a struggle to get out there today!!

When I am hunting I don't want my enjoyment ruined by struggle so I had to put it off to another day.(Maybe tomorrow!!)

GL&HH Friends,

CJ, I hope you make it out. I got that feeling last week and took off early from work to get to the beach. Looks like we might get a good storm on the west coast this week which might move a lot of sand around. HH!

Thanks for your reply Friend.

Today is going to be a Family day with 5 Grand-kids here.

The water is beautiful this AM, but some things are more important than hunting!!

The water went from the shot above to this over night!

This AM it is almost like a reflecting pool and guess who has a house full of company coming and can't go hunting!

Maybe tomorrow!

I live in hope!!

GL&HH All,

CJ

Hi WW,

Thanks for your reply Friend!

You are right that one mustn't put ones life/health in jeopardy, however there are ways of preparing for water hunting that can allow you to hunt in less than the best conditions.

I would prefer perfect weather with sunny skies and mild temperatures, but when you live in New England you are limiting your hunting year to a short one.

I have in the past done a few hunts to break up the winter "Blues" when the temps were in the high 20sF and there was no wind (that is critical!!) and enjoyed the experience.

When the cold did start to get uncomfortable I headed to home and hearth.

My first hunt this year was on a day when the temps were mid-thirties and no wind.

The solar gain from the sun in the clear sky was a big help and I was almost too warm for a while from the exertion of digging and the sun.

I was clothed in thermal, fleece and cotton layers and when I called it a day the cotton was soaked from my perspiration yet due to the wicking of the thermals and fleece I was still nice and warm.

Careful layering of the right clothing is essential.

My shoulder high gloves with wool glove liners were starting to get uncomfortable and my feet could have used a bit more insulation, but I could have gone longer if I had not run out of daylight.

Regards,

CJ
