Got the thumbs up to look around the old house. Put my standard coil back on and hit the clothes line again. And here are the results. Found all three in a matter of 15 minutes. 1945 S Mercury, 1907 Indian Cent..and a token."Good For 10 cents In Trade"..for the Kristiania Inn..Minot, North Dakota. Gotta do some more research on the token. Scratched the Merc with my Lesche..dammit!! Indian is in pretty rough shape..but Hell yeah!! Good day!!

Thanks. Yes I think you are right about being the first one there.. All the other properties surrounding it are private homes so I would need to investigate some more. Will be going back on wednesday for sure. I still have half of the yard to sweep yet..should be fun. I was extremely fortunate today.

I also have another house to check out. An acquaintence of mine lives there and I saw her outside weeding her flower beds today. So I stopped in to say hello and asked if I could detect her yard. She said sure, and informed me that the house has been there for about 90 years...I'm positive that it's another virgin property. Would be nice to share in the fun...c'mon up

BTW did you use the standard coil with the Ace (I'm assuming you used the Ace 250)
or the 9x12 coil? Once you get all the junk out of the yard the 9x12 might turn up something. Never know.

Actually..the day before..I hit the clothes line with my Sniper and did'nt get a single signal. And I'm thinking that is because I had the sensitivity set at 3 or 4, which is my normal setting for the 6.5" X 9' coil. Maybe if I had set it higher..at say 6 to 7..maybe I would have picked them up. As soon as I put my stock coil back on..I found them right away. I hate to say it..but my stock coil has out-performed the Sniper by leaps and bounds. I'm thinking that I should have invested in the 9" X 12" coil instead. Although the Sniper has found shallow coins that my stock coil did'nt..due to lots of trash targets...so it definately has it's pros and cons.

The sniper is really only for hard to get into places and for trashy ground. I don't care what anyone says, the sniper does NOT get
6 to 7 inches on clad or other small metallic objects,in my opinion. I have NEVER got anything that
deep with the sniper. If the object is large then yes, the size of a can will be picked up, probably.

Your right, if you put the sensitivity higher your going to get more depth but you also run the risk of false signals, depending on
the ground conditions.

Is your clothes line metallic or wooden. If its metallic I'm surprised the detector didn't go crazy getting up that close.
The sniper is a good investment for trashy areas but its not going to go much deeper than its 4.5 diameter on coins depending on
the size of the coin and ground conditions.

My experience is the stock coil with get six inches on most coins and deeper on larger metallic objects when you're hunting for relics.

I only use my 9x12 in cleaner ground. I've used it in some places where there were multiple targets under the coil and that made it hard to
pinpoint. It's great in open fields where you can safely use a shovel to get multiple targets, but not in the public parks.

Your doing good. I've only found one indiana head and it was in real bad shape.

Thanks. I did'nt mean that I Iiterally hit the clothesline pole with the Sniper...Was just a figure of speech. I just meant that I detected in the area between the poles where the clothes would have been hung. Yeah..it goes nuts when you get too close to the pole with either coil..although if you tip the bottom of the Sniper away from the pole you can get much closer. I would love to have the 9 X 12 just as an option, in case I ever do have an opportunity to sweep a field. But it's not in the card$ right now...besides..my wife would kill me if I bought anything else at this point.

With the Sniper you can run the sensitivity much higher as it sees so much less ground. Some guys run it wide open with the Sniper on. I get coins at seven inches plus in the bark chips all the time with the Sniper. Try running your sensitivity higher and keep the coil off the ground.

Your one up on me with the Indian Head Mc Dave...I'm gonna try and find one before the end of the year.
The mercury is a great find as well.
My newest practice in digging any good signal that i think is a coin especially when the good ones far and few between.......
With the aid of the Pro Pointer, I imagine the target to be a small fragile bird egg buried in the ground that i dont want to damage or break upon retrieval.
(This doesn't mean you have to dig a crater around the target)
Being short on patience like most westerners this has been a great mental and physical exercise for me.....
and the reward is sometimes gettting to crack open a clump of dirt and see a shining silver yolk inside. Thats fun!
The only down side is that you don't get to dig quite as many targets...but I'm ok with that.

I'll have to take you up on that shot sometime. Yeah..when I first started out about two months ago I was using a shovel from my garage. So my backyard is full of dinnerplate-sized plugs. I really like the Lesche and if I had the scratch I'd probably buy another one just to keep under my pillow. I'm still working on my pin-pointing technique...more often than not it seems like my target is 2+ inches to the left or right of the center of my hole. And that is why that Merc has a scratch in front of her nose. I've been reading up on it the last couple of days while waiting for this rain to pass. I definately need to exercise more patience..you got me there. Thanks
