The Va and N.J. Gubernatorial races are strictly a local victory. Great for the Republican parites in their respective states but does nothing on the National scale.

The NY-23 race was actually a victory for the Democrats. That seat change gave the Democrats another vote in the House and reduced a Republican vote in the House. That race was a bigger psycological victory for the Democrats than the two Govenor races were in Va. and N.J. were for the Republicans.

The NY-23 seat has been Republican since the Grant Administration. Barry's plucking of the Republican representative in that district to fill the Secretary of the Army slot was strategically a smart move on his part. He got what he wanted with another Democrat sitting in a house seat.

While the victories in Va and N.J. were nice, they don't do anything at the federal level to help the Republican party.

The 2010 election and the lead up to it will be the things to watch. All house seats are up for election, many Senate seats are up for election. That is where the battle lines must be focused. This skirmish win, while it was nice, it did not change the battle lines one whit.

Believe me, I want to see resounding Republican victories where ever they happen. But if the current Republican party does not move to the Right and cannot move the Republican electorate to get out and vote next year, then there will be nothing worth "waiting" for and the Obama explosion will not be one we all are hoping to see.

A couple of Micheal Steele's quotes from the article.

I don't see a victory in losing seats,

If there is no unity in the Republican Party there will be no unity at the polls when the votes are needed the most. Right now the Republican Party has more fractures in it than the techtonic plates in the Pacific Ocean. If there is not a person that comes forward, and SOON, to get the Republican Party back to the strong party it once was, there will be no "Hope and Change" in 2010 let alone 2012.

If the Republican Party cannot find some way to increase its party registration within the next two years, then we will not be the party of the majority for many years to come. You can take that fact to the election booth my friend.
