In the 1980s I discovered I could replace the plastic coil rod with a nylon rod from an industrial supplier and never have to worry about it breaking again!!
As I had problems with any of my connecting rods I replaced them with these unbelievably strong nylon rods and never looked back!!
This requires a few simple cuts with a hacksaw and drilling one hole to allow the coil to be bolted in place! (I'll take a few close-up photos to show how everything fits together!)
Recently I had a Dual Field coil to lower rod adapter snap at the place where the rod slips into the lower shaft.
I remembered I had an unused nylon rod from that era long ago and after a few simple spacers and adjustments of mounting hole diameters etc I had a nearly un-breakable lower coil connecting rod!!

A few months ago I also had a problem with the arm rest breaking on my Dual Field and as I had an arm rest/upper rod assy from a Garretts Detector that is built very strong I adapted the upper rod to the Dual Field and went hunting!!
The green rod is in the above photo.
When you have a problem with your detector there is often a simple solution to the problem which prevents having to send the machine to he manufacturer and keeps you, Dear Hunter, in the game!!

PS I must to warn anyone using the brace I recommend to keep you coil aligned and locked in place; you must place a rubber or plastic pad under the end of the PVC tube where it engages the coil to prevent chaffing that will damage the coil!!!
