If you have had the good fortune as I have of being able to water hunt wearing waders most of the time, this information is for you.

If you just want to know more about using waders you may learn something new from this info too.

Waders should never be worn where the water is so rough that you have to spend all your time keeping the water out of your waders and not focusing on hunting for treasure.

Where I hunt the water gets too rough for waders from time to time and I find something else to do, such as hunting the wet/dry sand.

During the summer months here in Connecticut the water temp is pretty chilly and makes using 3Mil neoprene waders a comfortable choice and as the weather turns colder 5 or 7 Mil is a better choice.

I got a set of neoprene waders recently at a well run outdoor store. The guy who worked there told me to get 'tool dip' to seal the leaks and do it from the inside. I usw aquaseal for my wet and dry suits but the tool dip is supposed to penetrate the fabric farther and makes a good repair. Inflate the waders with air and run soapy water over them. Mark the spot and go back inside and apply tool dip onto the dry inside to seal them. Jim
 
A similar material is sold as "Goop" in many different incarnations (Shoe Goop, Marine Goop, ETC.) works very well when thinned with toluene and applied to

neoprene warmed with a hair drier.

It soaks in and really seals those pesky leaks, but they keep on coming!

(Adequate ventilation is necessary no matter what you use!!)

Sometimes I get only one hunt out of a pair before I have another leak!

Since I have been using my "wader in a wader method" I have been comfortably dry!

I guess I have been lucky CJ.. my waders, both sets haven't sprung leaks yet :) I'll probably jinx myself now though ;)

I wear my neoprene in the fall.winter/early spring then go over to my gortex lightweight waders... down this end of connecticut we don't get much rough water :) at least where I hunt the beaches are protected by islands...
 
I tend to not be as careful with my waders as perhaps I should and I'm sure if I was that they would hold up longer.

I have a friend who has owned waders from the cheapest to the most expensive and he is constantly dealing with leaks too!

I have found my "waders inside waders" idea is working out so far.
