These MRSA infections are spread from direct contact of open cuts and sores with contaminated surfaces. Washing your hands with soap and water and covering cuts is the best way to protect yourself and prevent the spread of the bacteria. I'd be more worried about getting tetanus from a rusty nail, or some other infection from bird or farm animal poop in a field.
