Using Discrimination with the Infinium...

Was hoping some folks more experienced with the infinium than me could provide a little insight. I've only used the infinium in a pure Civil War camp site with the disc turned all the way down...dug pretty much anything that repeated...high/low and low high...but I've got an old homesite that we've found that is absolutely covered with hot rocks (three chimneys have fallen in and around the house)...we have tried both a Shadow and Fisher F70 and the site literally drives both machines nuts....so, I figured the Infinium could handle it....my question...moving into a homesite that may have TONS of iron targets, is there any reason to raise the disc knob, what does that knock out, and what would I move it to?

OK, thanks.

Using a PI littered with tons of iron targets is really going to test your skills. I would not recommend it, and advancing the disc will not help you. It's too bad, as you get all the depth you could ever ask for, and have to contend with iron. My suggestion would be to remove all the targets possible with a single frequency machine, then try using the Infinium. Either way, a lot of iron targets will mask some of the better targets you are after. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to hunt such an area. But....if you put in all the time to clean up that area, the good finds are all yours. Good luck! :)

The Garrett (2216600) 7" x 3" DD coil is likely to be the most suitable coil on an Infinium LS in the mentioned area. ( my choice )

Do the Infinium setup ( frequency ~ ground balancing and the like ) with the coil at the spot where the search will commence.

Take it easy and do not be afraid of readjusting the Infinium when the ground conditions change, perhaps also try the search with Auto Ground Track in slow.

The Infinium LS has very few adjustments, so use them to the best advantage.

No "Discrimination" required when the Pulse Frequency is set to eliminate all outside interference.

Yeah iron and hot rocks are a killer for the PI unless it has a pulse delay control. The best shot is as John suggested. A lot of work and effort but could pay off. If there are any really deep goodies there the Infinium will sniff them out.
