Using F5 in shallow stream?

Foggy

New member
Hi guys
There is a stream which runs along the side of my favourite field, it looks like it averages around 3-8 inches deep, I am very tempted to try a search in this stream as I found a modern coil spill right at the edge of it. Is the F5 capable of doing this? Mike if you catch this post I would like to hear your thoughts? Has anybody else used a F5 to search a stream?
Regards
Foggy

the coils are waterproof so you can use them in water just dont get the control box wet, i did have a 11 inch DD coil on my old f70 that after using it in water the machine went crazy i had to send it back to fisher and they fixed it and was covered by the warrenty, happy trails

Please give that creek a try! as long as you dont get your control box wet...so be cautious even when you raise your detector, if theres water inside the shaft, and you raise your coil higher than the controls, it will race up the shaft and flood you into dispair! I've hunted water with the F70 and the 11"dd up to about 6" below the control box..dangerous, but you know how it goes...knee deep is perfect...
Let us know what you find!

Thanks guys
I've looked at this stream a number of times but never had the nerve. I've had finds in this field from 12th century so the way I look at it is, older generations must have used this stream as a means of getting water.
That's a very good point Mudpuppy, I often pick my nose now and again with my coil:bouncy: Seriously though that is a good point, it would be very easy to rest it on the bank pointing up!
Ez4sure, did they suggest it was a dodgy coil or did the water actually damage it?
Have you guys been out recently?

hey foggy the coil worked fine until i stuck it in the river im sure it had a factory defect and water leaked inside but they fixed it had my coil back from fisher in a few weeks i was just glad i had the stock 10 inch coil also so i did not miss any detecting time having a extra coil is a good idea good luck in the creek hh

Foggy , do not have F5 but iI would certainly try it out. What do you have to lose, nothing Good Luck, Ezra.

Sorry Foggy, I've been away.
I think the guys covered it. I say hunt it.

Hi guys
I was talking to one of the locals today about the stream, he informed me that it's not a stream but part of a network of drainage for the farm lands around! The farmers dug them in the 19th century BY HAND:rage: it's funny, I often moan about sore shoulders after 3 hours of digging targets:biggrin:
So I'm not expecting too much, going to wait for some fine weather then give it a go.

Foggy, you should be good to go! hand dug drainage ditch = 1) guys from that era standing in that ditch working their tails off in pants with holes in the pocket. 2) I place to cool off when the water was running.

I see nothing but good things, just keep that control box out of the water! LOL

GL and HH!!
