Using the F5 on the beach

Hi all, while I'm waiting for my Fisher CZ-21 to arrive from the USA, I'd like to use my F5 on the beach, are there any special settings required? Thanks

I set thresh at -2 to -3 gain at 50 to 80 wet salt sand and re adjust for for dry sand. don't for get to ground balance as best you can, But I have no real problems.

A lot might depend upon the negative Iron mineralization of the beach sand combined with the positive low-conductive wet salts. Each beach may differ, and with some the saltiness (when wet) can really be a challenge ... and here I refer to the Great Salt Lake in Utah. Our ocean beaches aren't that salty!

However, the beaches here in Oregon aren't mellow, either, and many have a good concentration of iron in them which calls for more (higher) GB adjustment than some places, such as Florida. Still, through the years I have done well with many models if I get a proper GB for the part of the beach I am hunting (differs from dry to barely damp to wet to a little surf wash). Then, once I have adjusted the GB to deal with the ground mineral challenges (negative iron mineral) I use just a little low-end Discrimination to reject the low-conductive salts when wet. each model and each coil used and each particular part of a beach differs, but it has worked for me, and I've only been going to the beach to detect occasionally since about 1972. :detecting:

PS: I accomplish the Disc. level setting by bobbing the search coil (after I've GB'ed) from about 6" down to about
