Using the Vac at the "new freeway" site

Ok, so the 3" of snow we got Wednesday went away yesterday and the rain stopped this afternoon. I headed over to the old home sites with the intension of picking a 3x3 area and cleaning it out wth the Silver Sabre, then doing the same with the Vaq, both of these in all metal. Instead, I spy one of the last remaining houses now boarded up, so I stopped.
I can tell I am the first to get to it, probably been less than a week since the people moved out.I only have 40 mins or so. I half supertune the vaq and start getting memorials from the 70s, then a couple of wheats. All in all got 6 mems, a nickle, and 5 wheats. Only got fooled twice by junk, half a pulltab and a piece of wire.
Here's the thing though and it bothers me some. I got an iffy signal so I dug, 5" down was a nail. I went back over the hole as usual and got the tiniest of signals, more like a "tick" than a signal. Thought it was residual from the nail, put my probe down there and 1/2" under the dirt is a wheat. Go over it again and the same " tick". Another wheat. What is bugging me is, I removed 5" or so of dirt with my plug. These coins virtually gave no signal. I had to go to all metal to pick them up. During regular hunting, I doubt if I would have even noticed the signal. I am not complaining about finding these as my older coin finds have been sparse with the Vaq. It really is making me wonder what it is skipping over.

Could they have been up on edge? Strange. wonder if Im missing anything?

I dont know. Sure wish I had retuned after the first one came out following the nail. It would have been nice to know if neg or pos made any difference. And I sort of find it strange I didnt find any silver. Hopefully I can get back before someone else shows up. I'm greedy.

Remember that the "All Metal" mode of the Vaquero is a true, Threshold-based All Metal mode that will respond to ALL targets, ferrous and nonferrous, and YOU have control over the Ground Balance setting. With any Silver

Hi Monte,
Well I wasnt using the SS, just the Vac. My original plan of completely cleaning a small area to see if treasure are hidden underneath was foiled by the vacant house. Thats why I say "fooled". I am noticing a difference in tones between most trash and coins, especially copper.
I have no trouble digging an iffy signal, ever, where concern came in was after removing 5" of soil and the nail, the target response to the two wheats still in the hole was nil. At this point I dont know if that is an inherent problem with this V or if the GB had changed enough to make them almost unseen. I was so surprised they were there I didnt thinK to experiment with the GB.
I certainly agree that just being old doesn't gaurantee silver, but when a house is from the 40 or older and you get 5 wheats in less than 30 minutes, one would be inclined to think at least one silver dime would have been dropped. Granted, I was spot checking so I probably just didn' t go over one.
Since getting the Vaquero I have spent a lot of time thinking about the thousands and thousands of coins and jewelry found over the years, I believe the majority of it was found with the cheapest Compass you could buy in the early 70s. I think that my finds dropped of considerably when I purchased my first discriminator. Maybe it' s time to get back to the basics.

Don't forget to supertune the vaquero if you want to go deep.I talk to so many people that own vaquero's,and say i am not getting the depth i used to get and want to send the detector in because they feel the detector got weaker. The next thing i say is,did you remember to supertune when you wanted to go deep.Every time it does not fail. They say,i forgot all about supertuning!.Supertuning the vaq will easily get three more inches in depth. The Outlaw does not seem to make a difference to me.It actually seems to make it worse.Same with the golden. It does not help me either to supertune the tejon. :-D

Yes I have been supertuning. Went back today. Got in about 40 more minutes before I started getting too wet from rain. No wheats this time but I did find this.......nice piece of silver.

Wow.That is a nice coin with i take it a necklace hole.Looks like you know what you are doing with the vaquero. :-$ :-@ :-!

Yea, I need to get back and see it there is a chain to go with it. This was last signal and I just had to dig it, sure glad I did. I call this my Philapino Walking Liberty.

How deep was that silver coin?

My plugs have been 5-6" deep. I think it was stuck to my plug and fell off, it was laying on the edge of the grass when I pinpointed it.

Not bad...I'm sure there's deeper stuff there that the Vaq could find

Let us know any other finds you get
