Using the XLT yesterday = A first 4 IH's :~)

Near my house is 2 small sections of sidewalk that was torn up, so I figured might as well have a look. <BIG GRIN> 1900,1901,1902 and drum roll........ 1887 WOOT!! Funny thing is I found em in order 1900-1901-1902 then the big one 1887. Very pleased -even though- hunting where sidewalks have been removed is like shooting fish in a barrel.(sometimes, I'll explain)

My first run over these spots yeilded a piece of brass..... nothing else........- Using the preset coins/jewelry program. Bummed I went back on the porch to finish my coffee, smoke and think. I could not believe that that was all that was in there. So on comes the machine and I start fiddling, Bottle cap reject adjusted to 1, response speed bumped to 30-+35 I forget, tone ID off. As far as I can remember this was all that I adjusted,(I think) back at it, Bang,Bang,Bang,Bang good stuff. I also think one of the problems was it was a cramped area and i could not get a good sweep. I've noticed the XLT needs a little more speed to work well (so it seems?) They took some of the dirt off, I wonder what I missed :(

Just goes to show some lucky fine tuning paid off.

No pix of the coins- they are still soaking. I'll post em later- Cleaning IH's any tricks?? (using water an a tiny bit of dish soap)

Way to keep at it R-n-R. Still looking for an IH. Spotted a sidewalk removal yesterday but couldn't get permission. Thanks for the story.

Scott -Most of the time - CITY - sidewalks are fair game, but you don't want to get into a beef over something silly.

If it is a City Sidewalk and not in front of a house, I say go for it...Just do it when no workers are around...The sidewallk is still city property no matter where you go...It is just the neighbors that will give ya a hard time thinking your hunting on their lawns or something...

HH,

If its a pro job they remove dirt to make way for the ash they put in for drainage. Last time I was not given permission followed the truck and saw where they dumped...2 seated dimes and an 1825 large cent so a lot of the goodies are being taken away. Just a tip to old sidewalk renovations....

I don't want to hijack the thread but thanks for the advice concerning public sidewalks. I had no idea. Thanks for the post R-n-R. Keep up the penny parade as long as you can and keep postin them with your stories. Now I have several new ideas for locations to go check. Good luck.

BTW- DanPa ,THAT'S what I like to hear. Good old fashioned American perseverance and a great story.

That's a very good idea Dan. I'll ask those guys when I see em out there next. Could be a gold mine!
