vaquero air test

Jim my Vaquero gets a US and Canadian dime at 5 inches on the air test minimum discrimination . The last regular circulation silver dime here in Canada is 1968 and the Vaquero hits that at 6 inches and the silver content in pre-1968 dimes and quarters is higher so I believe they will air test higher. I can ad an inch in All Metal mode. This test is with a battery with about 10 hours of use on it. In the ground I can get far deeper results and that is where I hunt. Regular hunting set up for me is minimum discrimination and hunting with pin point pressed (all metal mode) with thumb and when I get a hit I release the button and thumb the discrimination if I need to for ID-ing target. Ground balance datum for me is 5 turns counter clock wise to 12 o'clock and then 2 turns clock wise stopping at 12 o'clock then + or - depending on the ground conditions.

I have a makeshift test bench. With the stock coil in air and on min disc, sens at 10, threshold just audible, I get a solid 9 inches on a mercury dime. Performance will decrease in the field. The earth dampens the signal and highly mineralized soil dampens it even more. Yeah I know about the halo effect, but I have never seen it improve range except with iron which rusts like mad and makes the object appear larger.

When I had my Vaquero it was getting a Merc dime way more than 5" in air tests in Disc mode. Test yours again. My Cortes is not as deep yet gets the dime at 7" in Disc mode in air tests and shows proper meter ID . My Golden uMax gets the dime at 7" too but will give the correct tone only up to 6", at 7" the tone drops to low tone. These are decent signals you can't miss. My deepest coin in a park with the Vaq was a wheatie at 8", measured.

I do that inside my apartment whit sens 7 and the ground balance at 1 3/4 turns because don't do 3 3/4 turns, just 3 1/2 in all:

8 x 9 (concentric) 10 x 12 (widescan (more noise))
Coin All Metal Disc. All Metal Disc. (just up Iron)
Peni 13 1/2" 8" 12" 9"
Dime 12 7 1/2 10 6 1/2
5 cent 13 8 1/2 13 8

1 Dollar 15 9 1/2 14 9 1/2
2 Dollar 16 10 14 1/4 10
Stainless steel knife 16 9 15 11 (28 cm long, handle and blade x 23 mm wide)
Aluminum 19 14 25 17 (tube cream, 12.5 cm long x 3 cm)
Drill bit (litle) 9 9
Cache (251 zinc penis) 25" 14" 25" 16" (soft drink plastic bottle 710 ml)

I wait this give you an idea about Vaquero capacity. Thanks. Jorgevc.

sorry for some mistakes...the coins are canadian coins, in the caches should be zinc peni and I do the reply by column but the computing is not my business. Thanks. Jorgevc.

Jabbo I tested again with a new battery and now I am getting the same depths as the others. It is a lesson for me to monitor battery life and not to let it get to low as performance decreased. Its that Scottish heritage in me trying to squeeze out the last bit of power. I have been using Duracell's. Anybody successfully using 9 volt rechargeable s?
