I absolutley love this machine and I have a compadre too with the 5" coil which I love too and thats more my sniper machine for the tot lots or small areas like front yards,,,,, but the vaquero I have been thinking of a bigger coil but only if its worth it,,, should I get a bigger coil or stick with the stock vaquero coil is what I'm thinking? my main use with the vaq is grassy park/soccer field type terrain and dry salty sand and was thinking of one of those 18" long skinny coils just to cover ground faster,, but will it be tough pin pointing and at the same time I don't want to be digging these wide holes because I'm missing targets.

thanks for your opinions,, T

I have a 10X12 DD coil for mine and that stays on there most of the time.
Not only is the DD a little better in mineralization like you might have in that sand, it might get you into the wet a little more.

The best use is for large areas like fields and parks.
You can cover a lot of ground pretty quickly because you don't have to overlap as close as you do with a concentric.
I don't like the fact that the disc is a little fuzzy vs the standard, and pop tops sound like high end coins again, but the trade of is worth it.
Some would say the cleansweep coil could cover a decent amount of ground too, and it does, but the depth is a little better on the DD.

This ring was found in a large field when I was moving so fast and swinging so wide you would have laughed at me if you saw it.

I had only a few minutes left in the hunt and I wanted to find just one good thing before I left...and then this coil beeped over this thing.
I call this my "Hail Mary" signal...and I am sure I would never have found it without a fast detector like the Vaq and that large DD coil.

I lost my weding band just like yours at the beach while metal detecting, I took it off and put it in my pocket, should have kept it on my finger. Pinpointing with the 3x18 Cleansweep coil is dead on, at the front tip. It will get a gold ring about 5" deep with the Vaquero.

I have a small 5.75" concentric coil on the way for my Vaquero. I think larger coils have their place in certain hunting spots, but the stock coil seems to be about the perfect size for most applications.
The small coils perform very well in trashy areas. My vote would be go smaller and get those targets others are passing up with bigger coils. I'm anxious to try my 5.75" coil out in a couple of older parks that I know are holding some old coins.....HH

Since I have the big DD and the standard 9X8...next up for me is the sniper concentric coil and then I should be complete...maybe.
I have a sniper on my F2 and have found so much lately it is crazy.
Snipers are turning out to be one of my favorite coils.

Read the thread 'pinned' to the top of this forum. Its from the people who make Tesoros.

The availability of different coils adds a lot of versatility to our detectors. When I first started detecting, I thought bigger and deeper had to be better. Then came my first experience or two with smaller coils in trashy areas. Since then almost all the detecting I do is done with the standard coils or smaller. Large coils have their place, but unless you are detecting in pretty clean ground and need to cover a lot of it, or are sure you have need for that little extra depth, most of the time you'll be better served with the standard or smaller coil. Just my humble opinion, but it's worked well for me.

Is there enough difference in the 9 x8 and 10 x 12 to justify the cost of a new 10 x12? (I can't seem to find one used) The 9 x 8 has done well for me so far. Usually dig minnie balls at 7' to 11" with the 9 x 8 on the Vaquero supertuned.

If you hunt wide open spaces in big parks like I do that big DD coil is fantastic, but in good soil the concentrics are actually a little deeper.
The one food long scanning field is an advantage at my sites, at yours it probably wouldn't matter much.
