Vaquero Odered

I just ordered a new Vaquero due to all the great info on this site. I was looking at a Silver and Cibola. I decided on the Vaquero mainly due to the manual GB over the other two.

This will be my 1st non TID detector. I have been thinking I might be missing some good stuff with my TID? I seem to dig "good" numbers only. It is a bad habit, and I wanted a machine that would let me think. I dunno but I hope to start finding more stuff? I am gonna make myself learn the Vaquero and use it to go back to some of my spots, Beale.

Hey Beale,
I bought a Vaquero for the exact same reason you are talking about. My first detector was a visual ID unit and I thought this would be an advantage,but like you, I tend to only dig good numbers. Last weekend I got a signal that read as a quarter one way and when I swung from a different direction, the numbers bunced around.
I dug it only because it was showing some depth and it turned out to be an 1810 large cent!!
I use the vaquero mostly now when hunting old home sites and dig every repeatable signal.
Often it is more fun to use the non TID since you have no idea what is about to come out of the ground.
I think you will not be dissappointed in this detector once you start using it.

Hay Beal,

What do you have? Do you still have the X-Terra?

What ever, the V should be a welcome addition.

I owned a Cibola. When I sold it, I wanted to replace

it with a V.

My Vaquero is supposed to arrive today.

It has two advantages over the Cibola.

It has a all time all metal mode as well as a push

button pin point, and the Manual GB make it a

really nice machine.

Hey Tabdog yes I am still using the X-Terra. Now do not get me wrong, I really like it. I do know that I have found some decent stuff with it. The only jewelery I have ever found though is silver. This comes in as a nice high tone and ID, so I dig. In the 7 months I have owned the 70 I have only found a hanfull of nickles, and no gold at all? That is one of the biggest reasons I am ignoring low and iffy stuff.

Any way I really am looking foward to the Vaquero. Heck I really could not go wrong. I won a $330.00 gift certificate to an online dealer. The V ended up costing me $90.00, Beale.

I had the vaquero for over a year and just loved it. My most notables were an 1854 half dime at 7 1/2 inches, a 1892 ih in very fine shape, and a heart buckle at 12inches. I found a ton of coins and relics but those stick out in my mind. I know that I am not getting the depth I had with my x70, but I like the tones and having an id. I will probably get another vaquero because I really liked using it. but for now the x is working fine. You will enjoy the power and depth this machine has. Once you get used to it, try super tuning and it will really reach out. Im sure there are plenty of guys that remember how to do this. i noticed how much better the discrimation is on the vaq. compared to other machines. Good luck and hh...GH

Beale, You are going to find a sack of nickels now, with the Tesoro!

Seems to me that metered ID will talk you OUT of digging a target more than convincing you it is good...
at least from what I've read.

Nickels don't escape my Tesoro machines, and it almost seems like dimes jump out of the ground!

I'm pretty sure you'll like the V. I've had mine for about 2 weeks and haven't used my MXT since. The ground balancing took a little while but, only because I was doing it wrong. The wind is blowing like the devil here in New Mexico today or I wouldn't be here typing. I still like my MXT also but, I have found more coins with the V in the same time period.

I used a tone I.D. machine for many years then I started using some of the Fisher 12XX series models. After that I realized that I wanted something light with reasonable depth. I tried a Golden and liked it but I have this problem with fixed GB. So purchased a Bandido 2 u-max and loved it. Now I have a V high tone and it fills the void. I can competition hunt with it (I have the 3 X 18 cleensweep light coil) and dig coins and relics. Now I wouldn't take the V to a park loaded with truck loads of tabs,caps,foil and other assorted trash and hunt for gold rings as I don't have that type of patience. I use my V to hunt more desolate areas like hillsides,logging camps,mining areas and hard ground areas. Just find yourself a square nail and set your disc so it just starts to knock it out and make sure your GB is set correctly and run your sens as high as possible. When you have the extra money purchase the 5.75 concentric coil. The next step is to start digging and you may be surprised at all the good stuff you have left behind by relying on the meter. That's my 2 cent's worth!
