Vaquero & outlaw

Hi all, I have seen depth tests between the outlaw and the vaquero yet I have not seen any difference in depth and separation. Just courious if any of you have tested the two?

Ditto what Jspeedy asked. I would like to here some more also. Right now I am leaning towards the Vaquero just due to fact I don't totally understand the mysterious retune button. Right now I kinda feel the Vaq. has all depth I need and is simple to operate. I don't think one would go wrong with either but I am now leaing towards the Vaq and thinking about ordering the 5.75" coil with it.

All I can say is I just started recently with a Vaquero and like it a lot once you get the ground balance set and if you want to supertune it I get about 9 to 10 inches on a quarter hard dug a 1903 indian cent today with a spent 38 shell in the same whole as well the coin was about 5 inches I think once I spend a few more hours of searching I will be able to be quite confident with it as I have become with my Shadow X2

I got the 5.75" coil wiyh mine and I love it in the trashey areas. I also got the lower shaft with it. It is on mine most of the time. I use the stock in big parks that aren't to trashey. ... KEN

Can't go too wrong on either IMHO. The Outlaw is compatible with other 5pin

Don't let the re-tune button on the Outlaw be a deal breaker. Once you understand it and learn how to use it, you'll be glad you have the ability to re-tune.

Also, the Outlaw's ED120 makes for more precision discrimination. The targets are more spread out.

It's not as touchy as the Eldorado and Vaquero that have a higher ED.

hey Tab, correct me if i'm wrong, but if the Outlaw has a disc of 120 wouldn't it at it's minimum disc setting lose a square nail better than 180?? It seems my outlaw has trouble ignoring square nails even with a higher disc setting.

I'm no guru, but it shouldn't make any difference. I have sometimes dug deep bent nails that should have been discriminated out with my Eldorado and Vaquero.

I don't know what causes it, but for some strange reason a really deep rusty bent nail will sound off.

However at the same discrimination setting that same exact nail won't make a peep when waved in front of the coil.

My other brand detectors do the same thing.

Agreed.....once out of the ground i get nothing on it...strange... I'm not used to this as my idx ignores those pesky nails all day long...

Hi tabman, I've never had a detector that didn't false on some iron and I've had quite a few. I know in my ground in the spring it seems worse than usual, I think it's due to the ground being so wet. The halo around the iron seems to be amplified quite a bit. As the season goes on and the ground dries out I very rarely dig iron unless it's a real large chunk.
Just my thoughts on the topic..

I have the same prob with my Vaq. I get a solid signal that hits good like a coin. I dig it up and it's a rusty nail. In the air it will completely disc out. Drop it on the ground and it does NOT disc out. It can get frustrating. It doesn't just do this on some larger pieces or iron, it does it ALOT on small or large iron. Maybe I'm just not 'tuned' to the subtle nuances yet, but damn I wish I could tell if it was a rusty nail by the sound, cause to me it usually sounds like a 'good' target. My other detectors would rarely have me digging SMALL iron unless it was shaped like a coin.

Atom, maybe it's simply due to just how sensitive these tesoro's are. I guess we need to comprimise something in order to gain something else. My outlaw doesn't really like my cellar hole hunts due to the high iron everywhere. Check out Dave (aka heavymetalnut) on youtube, he uses a whites xlt. Super quiet in the cellar holes and pulls some amazing stuff. This is where my Idx shines as well.. Let's see, Whites Idx for cellar holes.....Fisher f2 for coin shooting and gold rings.....and the outlaw to clean up after the other two machines with it's depth and sensitivity?? That's what i'm thinking... If I could only swing all three at once.....Hmmmm...
