Vaquero owners..or any Tesoro owners

Now I ask of you all and be honest. How many of you ever experienced this?

Bought a Vaquero for general use:
1. Lettering was smeared, very difficult to read.
2. Very unstable threshold.
3. Wouldn't ground balance properly.
4. Gaudy purple color, Tesoro should have stuck with the brown, bronze theme.
5. Knobs were loose, and had a lot of slack in the adjustment.

I've been metal detecting for 30 years, had 17 different detectors(3 Tesoros), and my Silver Umax (the brown and bronze color)outshines the Vaquero.
Maybe it was a lemon, but Tesoro shouldn't have let that one out of the shop. Doesn'r say much for their quality control.

In another post you tell one member he wont regret buying his Vaquero. You said you loved yours. What gives?
I dont see the smeared lettering, have an unstable threshold, have difficulty with ground balance or loose knobs and do not care what color it is. All I care about is finding old coins and jewelry. Mine seems to fit that bill and at a cost that didnt break the bank.

See, thats why I asked. It could be construed as coming from you and I didnt really think it did.

No i did not and I should have clarified that. I read a lot of reviews and I have become a Tesero fan. If I find something bad I want to share and see what everyone has to say.

in fact....this afternoon me and my Vaquero have a date:). With any luck I will be posting some pics tonight or tomorrow

That description sure doesn't fit the Vaquero I bought (used) this fall. In fact mine performs very well and looks good in spite of not being "showroom" new.

If they are going to tell the world about the V they bought, they should take some pictures of it to show us what they see.
Sounds like a "smear" campaign.

My Compadre and Vaquero are both excellent performers, with NONE of the above problems. My Compadre was shipped with a stripped coil mounting bolt, but was still usable as it was. I called Tesoro and recieved a new bolt in 2 days.

1: It is just a sticker on the faceplate that has the lettering. I'm sure Tesoro would send one out (or a new faceplate w/sticker) ASAP, if someone where to ask them. 2: Threshold stability has alot to do with the ground you are hunting in. Even when properly ground balanced the threshold can still be unstable at times. 3: I'm sure alot of people regret buying there Vaquero, due to the purple color, LOL. 4: Slack in the adjustment? Not sure what that even means! 5: Knobs are easy to tighten with an allen wrench. I've heard very few complaints about Tesoros, but everybody makes mistakes!

I have had five Tesoro's and all were in excellent condition.

and I completely agree. Thank you all. Again I just wanted to share

I've had somewhere between 20 to 25 Tesoro since 1982 or 1983 and never had one that was not top notch. Of the ones I've owned 4 or 5 were sent back to the factory for adjustments or recaliblations. Sometimes switches or other items that were still working were replaced without any input from me. In other words never had a bad experiance or reason to complain about any machine.

Likely explanations in bold...

Bought a Vaquero for general use:
1. Lettering was smeared, very difficult to read. (He could not find his glasses)
2. Very unstable threshold. As has been posted before, never metal detect with a hang-over.
3. Wouldn't ground balance properly. This is here Tesoro's really work well - he must have been holding the wrong end.
4. Gaudy purple color, Tesoro should have stuck with the brown, bronze theme. OK, now it is just getting annoying.
5. Knobs were loose, and had a lot of slack in the adjustment. Unless he dropped it from a plane, this is simply not true.

Clearly, someone woke up on the wrong side of the web when this written.

or maybe is a Chinese counterfeit

I read almost the exact statement on a web review site, yet all the other reviews were outstanding.
Some people enjoy antagonizing others, or knocking something when others speak well of it.

The only problem I have with my Vaquero is the Freq switch will only move to two positions. No big problem. I dont change it anyhow.
