VDI numbers on T2

Do the VDI numbers have any meaning on the T2 when hunting in All Metal? For example, a copper penny in Disc rings up at 80. In All Metal, it comes in at about 40.

Must admit i never use the screen, the audio is far more reliable certainly at depth, mainly use 2+ but saying that in recent months have been using 3 tones and it gradually becoming my main choice, rarely use AM mode on this machine,a decent set of headphones in my opinion is very important so that you hear and decipher those deep whisper targets as they are the possibly the best ones.

If i am say using a large coil ie 15'' or 17'' Big Nel on open pasture because the depth is below what will register a VDI reading anyway its a waste of time looking at the screen, but the audio is still giving a weak signal at greater depth. If it gives a good signal it has to come out,is the T2 deep in my mind it most certainly is,one of my all time favourite detectors.

I am not saying dont take notice of the VDI No's all i am saying is how i use mine, silver hammered coins which are my main targets have a massive variation in silver quality and hence wont give a reliable VDI No,if i was to knock out silver foil/paper with the T2 then i stand a great chance of missing most of these silver coins, also gold coins like say the holy grail celtic gold staters can be down near the iron VDI range.

Just my opinion of course and how i use my T2,we all detect differently and after different targets as well.

Thanks, Mega. You are correct--my usage of the detector is different than yours--I use my T2 at old house sites and parks for deep coins here in the US, although this fall I may use it for a field hunt near an old farm. So I was thinking about using it in AM mode there. I find 3 or 4 tones distracting, but this is my first multi-tone detector, so I'm still getting used to it. I'm not sure I will find a use for AM mode, but it seems strange that the VDI numbers in that mode would be completely useless. I did an air test today with quarter, dime, nickel, penny, and the readings in AM and DISC were not even close to each other. Weird.

I just went and did a check on My 7.6 version T2se in all metal a 1965 Copper cent reads 83 and in Disc mode it reads 83 using the 5 inch coil which is what I had on the machine . if yours iss reading in the 40's then I would say you have a slight problem

Ok, well, I just did the air test over again and everything read the same: Quarter 88, Dime 83, Nickel 58, Zinc Penny 77 Copper Penny 81. So maybe a senior moment or a glitch in the matrix. :|

My T2 does the same thing. In all metal it's lower. At least things in the ground are that way. I hunt in all metal then flip to disc when checking a target. It will read higher in disc. I have also set my disc up with dp or Delta tones. I am really liking that sound.
