VDI's on XP

Flintstone

Well-known member
Hi All XP users, Is the VDI's more normal on each setting, or just as good set in MORM, where all vdi's are the same in all settings ? I think I asked that right, Some tines my XP just don't do good on VDI's it jumps all over the place. I know that in bad ground or a lot of targets it will do that, but some places I hunt is not very trashie and not a lot of iron, but the VDI's still jump way to much on coins that are only 4" to 5" deep. What can I do about that? Is there settings that will help? I use Most of Gary B settings and it still dose it. Thanks for any help. Flintstone

Flintstone, I don’t pay attention to VDI’s much with the type of detecting I do so I am going out on a limb here. So you have VDI’s that are jumping around. I don’t see how having VDI Normalization On or Off would make a difference. That adjustment just changes the scale and not the signal quality. You mention “bad ground”. That would be a likely cause. And even in clean sites without a lot of trash or iron the ground can still be “bad”. Do you know what kind of ground mineralization you are dealing with? Is it weak or strong, irony or salty?

No matter what the soil conditions are, make sure you have a good ground balance. If you have hot rocks, do some ground notch. Maybe ease up on your Sensitivity. The higher the Sensitivity, the smaller the targets your machine will detect. You might have small bits of minerals or iron competing with your coin signals causing the VDI to jump around. Maybe lower your Reactivity a bit. Try 1 or 2. In clean ground Reactivity of 1 is plenty and will give you a better hit, especially on deeper targets.

A little bit of Silencer in irony areas can help the audio response on a coin, especially the lower conductors. It might also help the VDI. I don’t know. Lastly, try matching your Frequency to the types of coins you are after. Don’t use 18 kHz if you are after large copper or silver coins. Those high conductors will hit better and maybe give a more steady VDI response with lower frequencies.

Those are some things I know that will improve the audio response. Will they prevent your VDI’s from bouncing around? In my mind, if you are improving the quality of the signal, it should. Just thinking out loud. I could be very wrong. Maybe your coil is cracked :)
