had an hour to spare today after work, went up the street to a house that belongs to an aunt of mine, found out last week that there used to be a pup there about 100 years ago,so thought it was worth a try, first target $1 coin, yippy, then heaps of trash, was ready to go ,but thought I would try down the other end of the yard, first target, 1943 Australian penny,, then from about 5 inches on the next hole I got this 1954 Florin (yes my first silver with the ace), then 2 holes later dug a 1951 penny, I am still on cloud nine,anyway here is some pics, hope you enjoy,HH

finding a silver with my ace sure is sweet, but my first Florin I found with an old radio shack, that i owned back in the 80s, I also found 2 threepence, 4 shillings, and one sixpence, I thought I had lost them, but found them again last night with some of my old treasures,will get them posted later tonight,
cheers
Whadda

What face value does a florin have?

Thanks and congrats
Jeff

TURNMASTER,
the florin is one of our preedecimal coins, and the way way they were valued was a bit tricky,,

penny = 1 penny
half penny = half penny
three pence = 3 pennies
six pence = 6 pennies
shilling = 12 pennies
florin = 24 pennies,

now I think that is how it goes,I have still got to get my head around the pounds , but I think all said it is very similar to English money
that said, this card from a set of coins I own shows what the value of the coins at our change over.

Great finds. I find that when I get discouraged, if I come to this great site and look at what other metal detectorists are finding, it gives me motivation to keep trying. Do something nice for your aunt, she deserves a pat on the back for letting you detect on her property.
