then if there is ask about them...I am thinking Roman coin but they can probably tell you more than I can...I detected in England for about 3 years...they live there and detect there all the time.

Don't know much about other countries coins, as I collect mostly United States coins. I have some from my visits to foreign ports when I was in the Navy, but sorry I can't help you. Maybe someone will see the post and have the numismatic knowledge to ID it even thought there isn't much to go on. Great find none the less. Hey Bernie, where do you live in the UK? The company I used to work for in New Jersey, here in the US, has a factory in Milton Keynes. Never been there as it was hard to get the permit to work there back in 1992.

So you live in Beatles land? I do have a few old large cents that I acquired a few years ago. Will post a picture of them later tonight after work.

I looked through a couple of the pics but can't quite find a match. Don't know sizes of UK coins... Look for a "bun" of hair (or ribbon?) in front of a "G". My guess is you're looking at something from the 1600's but who knows. I had a W&M 1/2 cent (copper) that was about as worn as yours but I (and a couple of people on some other forums) were able to figure out what it was. Made between 1690 and 1694. Yours has that "look".

Nice find!

I'll guess it's a 1697 sixpence, london

Hope she appreciated her boyfriend doing that and ruining a nice, old coin! God Bless! Betty
