......worthy of leading and directing Tesoro. Jack did an incredible job........sound management and innovation were his trademarks. Right now to me ......... it looks like these are "missing ingredients" today!!! Where is the innovation when the detector referred to as "new" in your catalog...the Tejon....................came out nine years ago???? Where is the direction, we all know that Jack has been winding it down.........he's done lots and has the right to retire. But right now who's in charge?? I really enjoyed my Tesoro's of years gone by but I wouldn't buy anything from their " tired" line up today. Look at all the choices that Fisher, Garrett, Whites and others are offering. Boy I really hope I can eat my words and Tesoro comes up with something fabulous for Spring 2011.......................but right now based on what I've observed over the recent years...................I don't think so!!!! Any other Tesoro fans feel like me? Or am I frustrated alone!!!

Yes and no. I do think Tesoro needs to bring out some TID detectors to compete with the likes of the Garrett Ace 250, Teknetics Delta, Whites Prizm series and so on. Not that the Tesoro line is lacking, I think it's needed to stay alive in a digital world. It's what new detectorists are attracted to. They are missing out on a very large part of the market. They also should come out with a detector to go up against say the Whites M6, but more affordable. I hope they keep the quick response/fast recovery, light weight but a few more features than the Ace 250 and so on. That with a lifetime warranty would be very hard to beat. Ivan, I've owned a 250 for a few years, and a 350 for a little over a month. Don't misunderstand what I'm about to say, I'm not unhappy with either. It's my belief the 250 is a great detector which is well worth its price, all things considered. It's inexpensive, and is a coin magnet for the most part (except nickles).....it's also an aluminum magnet, most of which rings-up as a coin. When the 350 was announced, it was over-hyped as some miracle. It's not, but don't take that as it's not a good detector. It's just a 250 with a larger coil (basically). My 250 & 350 air test the same, and swapping coils (something Garrett claimed "worked") cut depth (air testing) by over 1/3, and caused chatter on one, until sensitivity was lowered. Only reason I'm saying all this is, just because a manufacturer releases a new model, doesn't mean it's any better than the previous. I bought the 350 strictly as a back-up, and had been considering a larger coil for the 250 anyway, so I had little in the way of expectations from it being much different than my 250. If I had, I'd have been a bit disappointed. But I guess that's how advertising/marketing works these days.
I can't speak on Tesoro, because I've yet to have my hands on one, but over the past few years I've been involved in the hobby, I've heard nothing but good about them, and yes, their warranty speaks loads about them (IMO). I've gotten to the point where I feel this hobby is something I'll be involved in for as long as I'm able physically, so it was time to invest in upgrading detectors. I'm not knowledgeable about the inner-workings (electronics) of any of these machines, so I don't have a clue as to what makes them better, or what could be done to improve any of them. Perhaps Tesoro was ahead of their time, and got it "right" early on, and every one else has been playing catch-up? I mean, if they have something that works.....why change it? If they (Tesoro) just put the same stuff in a new housing (or just stuck a new coil on the end), and released it with a lot of advertising hype, I think that would do more harm than good. That's one (the main) reason I'd chose this time to try another brand.....Tesoro. I think another brand is going to lose a few customers, only time will tell.....

There will be a market for the currently produced Tesoro's for some time to come .Shoulders get old , money gets tighter and people are discovering newer isn't always better or necessary .

I would be happy with a machine similar to the Cortes with a bit larger display and either true auto or manual ground balance in both the all metal and disc modes, preferably at a good price.

I was of the same thought for a while, but you know what? Just like everyone else who mentioned that Tesoro has the technology to do what it takes, I firmly believe that. I started out with a Tesoro Stingray. I still have that detector and LOVE IT. I'll never part with it. It works just as good as any of those top name "newer" models out there. In fact, it probably works better as it has a manual ground knob on it. I can adjust that detector to work anywhere, anytime and just as deep as the others. And another thing I have discovered about the Tesoros.....while many will say they can not handle the hot mineralized ground in Central VA, I can say otherwise. I hear so many relic hunters claim that their Whites, their Fishers, their Garretts are the only machines that will work in that ground. Well that's a load of bull. I had a White's MXT that I used in that area and I have to say, I found MORE with my Tesoro than I EVER did with that MXT. I'm not saying the MXT is a bad machine. Maybe I was using it incorrectly. Or maybe it just didn't work as well as my Tesoro. Regardless, my Tesors seems to be a brass/bullet/coin magnet while ignoring the trashy iron. The MXT seemed to ONLY hit on the trashy iron and I seemed to miss most of the buttons, bullets and coins. I sold that MXT....just bought a Tejon. I'll stick with Tesoro's line-up as it currently is. They WORK. And for me, that's the bottom line.

Why fix what's not broken. Tesoro has poven it's self over the years and don't need detectors with all them bells and whistles to get the job done. Only thing I whis is they get the coil connector problem solve with the Sand Shark and Tiger Shark so I can buy one or the other since I'm retired now and spending more time at the beach
That is true, but sometimes you have to change to stay in business. For example. I am a big time Backpacker. External frame packs once were the norm, and still today, the majority of backpackers would do fine with one. But since the invention of Internal Frame packs and the constant upgrades to them, External Frame packs are becoming a thing of the past and I wouldn't be suprised to see them totally dissapear from todays market before long. External Frame pack technology isn't broke either, but if companies didn't jump on the more popular Internal Frame packs, they would be out of business. Tesoro may be doing fine in sales, but how long can it last. They offer nothing at this time that would make me want to upgrade from my Bandido IICladJunkie said:

However, when it's simply repackaged with a cosmetic change or two, and hyped to death only to find the end user not to agree with the hype, has the company done themselves justice? If that backpack simply had some new zippers and snaps added, and the frame powder coated a different color, then the company blew these "improvements" out of proportion and claimed it to be the "Greatest Backpack Ever Produced", I wonder how many would take the bait? Those that did either didn't know enough to see there were no real improvements, or they were just "brand blind" and thought just because it had a certain manufacturers seal of approval, that it must be great. Seen enough of this on another board, so much in fact it's sickening to the point I don't even bother reading the board anymore, it's the same old same old, a hand full of people hyping a detector that isn't even released yet, yet they believe they have the knowledge to tell everyone just how great a detector it is.

Dial soap is another....now their bars of soap are concave on one side, so you get less soap for your money. Instead of someone cutting corners as opposed to raising their price....I'd rather pay a little more instead of feeling cheated.
