VLF-Question for Reg.

Frank-S

New member
I purshed a Garrett Master Hunter CX111.also have a Master Hunter ADS 111 a old powerfull
VLF detector., they are both Garrett Master Hunters detectors.so I tryed the CX111 coil on the ADS111
detector, they both have the same conectors. The ADS made a noise went dead. You repair detectors
as a hobby.
Question
Other than checking power supply, whats the first thing you check and anything I should check to bring
the ADS back to life. Thanks.

Hi Frank,

No, I normally do not work on other people's detectors. I am usually too busy with my own projects and I don't have the room.

My recommendations would be to check the preamp and transmit transistors to make sure they are ok. That is what I would expect to go bad if the problem was caused by the coil. There is also the possibility the failure was a coincidence, but probably not.

There is a schematic over on the Geotech forum for the ADS III. So, that should help.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Thanks Reg.
I had planed to repair it myself,it will be wenter project.I am still tinkering with
a coplanor coil for my teknetic G 2,Its a hard detector to make a coplanor coil go
deep,best as of yet a 13' coplanor, 5cents at13-1/2'' I am shoting for15'' on a nickel.
air test.
The garreet ADS 111 Pre-amp is in the coil its OK.
Might be a bad IC or cap.I cant get in Geotech with this libary computer.
Thanks again.
