VLF vs PI

I would like to find some good information on the pro's and con's of a VLF detector over a PI unit for beach hunting in and out of the water. Will the PI machine work as well in the dry sand,Some people have said it will not. I would like to hear from anyone with experience with this area. Thankyou.
