I thought I would grab my Explorer II this morning and go out for 1-2 hours, to a new park close by that I never hunted before. Threatening rain and I'm sort of tired to begin with (Eearly Morning) ya know? I don't remember how many hours my "AA battery pack" had on it on my prior use. But my batteries failed in three hours. I will always from now on carry extra batteries <img src="/metal/html/cry.gif" border=0 width=40 height=15 alt=":cry">
I found a nice productive spot by golly <img src="/metal/html/biggrin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt="
"> I was using my 15" W.O.T. coil, but I had my standard coil and Joey coil available if needed in my bag. No batteries but extra coils <img src="/metal/html/oh.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":O">
To make a long story short, I learned the area and soil pretty quick. In addition to the four silver coins I retrieved several very old wheaties.
All silver and old wheats were found by determination. There must be something about the soil? The silver coins and OLD wheats were found at about 8-9 inches deep. I could hear them from at least two dirrections. I put my machine on "pinpoint", and nothing, no signal. I had my gain on "10" IM @ 15 so I increased sensitivity from 22 to 30, with no difference at all.
I knew they were coins, so I just "jiggled" my machine (Minelab Wiggle?) until I could get close to centering the coin @ 90 degree angles. This park is clay soil and is very strange. I will be out there next weekend with all my batteries in full glory <img src="/metal/html/biggrin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt="
