Is the GT Sovereign as much a better/deeper machine than the XT70 to warrent spending the extra money for one?

There's a thread probably a month or two old where this is discussed. I can tell you that a friend tried the top Xterra model and wasn't too impressed with it's depth on coins in our soil conditions. He's owned numerous machines over the years but only held onto it for a month or two. I was interested in that machine until I found out they didn't make a large 3khz coil for it. Something in the 10 to 12" range at 3khz could make that machine a killer on deep silver/copper. I like the analog-to-digital technology they've developed for it. Still way better than most of the machines on the market in terms of performance.

IMO YES:thumbup:

I live in Australia, so i don't know where you live in relation to the beaches. If you live near the beaches, buy the Sovereign, you can fit it with 15" + coils, which are great for coverage. You can also fit it with an inline probe. The X-Terra only has 10" max coils, and you have to use a hand held probe, that means stuffing around with more batteries.

I use three different model X-terra and the answer is most definitely a yes. A sovereign is deeper than the X-terra. However, the X-terra is lot lighter and has good TID. If I was only going to have one or the other it would be the Sovereign, but if you can afford both, they compliment each other as the X-terra has a faster recovery speed and makes a great machine to do an initial survey at a junky site or if you're relic hunting it will help you locate the hotspots (light machine and many acres= less fatigue) that you can then search more thoroughly with the Sovereign. I use a Musketeer Advantage, but finally got play around with a friends Sovereign and eventually I'll own one of those too, I'm sure.
