Walking lady on newport beach.

Took my Xp-deus detecting when on a short vacation at newport beach. Wasn't having much luck in the normal areas so i hit up the dune area between the beaches and got a 1918d walking liberty half. Best coin find to date for me. Also got a buffalo nickel and a bicentennial dollar. Sad part is i had to leave just when things started doing good.

Iv'e detected Newport beach many times and I must have passed that coin up a few times as well!!! Great detecting:thumbup: I'd love to know the spot where you got it from!:)

Nice find!

We were near balboa blvd near where they do the car shows every Saturday. There is a parking lot at the beach there and north of that they have fire pits and volleyball. I was in the dune just north of the volleyball next to the bike path. I seen 8 other people detecting this area on Saturday morning but most were near the towel line and a couple guys around the fire pit area so i went to a different area and did pretty good. Got 2 rings and a bunch of old coins and the walking liberty. I told the guys near the fire pits about the area with the coins but me being a young guy they just shrugged it off and continued digging up melted aluminum chunks and trash. O well worked out for me. :)

The walking liberty was right where i droped this pin on the map i found a buffalo nickel about 20' from it closer to the water. If anyone one has anymore luck here post it up so i can see what i missed cause i had to go catch a plane.

Thanks spellman for pointing that area out! It's been awhile since I was there and yes, if I get the chance, I'll swing a detector there myself! There are a lot of guy's detecting all of the beaches up and down the coast and because of parking lot's being so close, it gets pretty hammered but there is always a chance for fresh drops which we all hope for!! Thanks again and congrats on finding the Walking Liberty 1/2!!

It looks like i got a crusted war nickel in there to its soaking in vinegar now.

Hey! We're bros! I just dug my first walker half, also a 1918 in Socal, I believe it's an S though...

that is so strange to pull out an ancient walker and possibly a war nick from dry sand as you did..

Congrats! they're a beautiful coin!

I'll be detecting there tomorrow with my Explorer XS. Hope to get some silver an gold.

WOW!! Nice seeing this older SoCal Silver coming off the beaches! Have you guys had some sand movement or are these just fluke finds that come up now and then?!?
