wanted Kids detector need advice

detectin4fun

Active member
I gave a co workers grandson some coins I found metal detecting and he wants to try his own machine. Grandma is wanting to buy two machines so both of them can go out together. She is looking at the BH junior. I do not know anything about these it looks like they go for around sixty dollars new can they make detecting fun or disappoint a child? Suggestions?

I just ran into a kid the other day using the BH Junior. In my opinion, it's terrible. My Harbor Freight pin pointer was getting more depth (1.5"). This kid was so disappointed. I let him hunt with an ACE250 for a while, he had a lot more fun, but couldn't wrap his brain around cutting neatly and filling in holes. If Grandma's interested, I'd aim higher on the price scale.

I would suggest a Tesoro Silver Umax, they are simple.
