Warmer climate hunting

I picked my wife up in Asheville N C at the conclusion of a Church meeting she and some other women were at last Sun morning and we headed down to St Simons Island Ga. Although the Ga temps weren't great, low to mid 50's all week, they sure beat what we left behind in West Tn. Of course, I had the F 75 LTD along and put it to pretty good use every day for almost a week. I did hunt the beach some, but targets were few and far between. I did, however, manage a 14k weeding band from up in the dry sand and a little bit of clad. The beach appeared to be sanded in, so I devoted most of my hunting time to some old parks, of which, I was advised had been pounded by the locals and every tourist that comes to the island with a detector. The first park I hit almost right off yielded me a 64d Rosie and a little later a piece of a broken 925 silver bracelet. Across the street was a bigger park and on Th I started hunting on it. Apparently most of the previous hunters on this spot disc. tabs and nickels, as nickels abounded through the spot. With mostly random hunting, I recovered 25 nickels in about four hours of hunting over two days. 2 of the nickels were Buffalos, a no date and a 1936. Also from this park I recovered a 925 silver ring, a 1890 IH cent, a 34 Merc dime and a 41 Washington quarter. I am kind of looking forward to getting back there and do a bit more hunting on those hunted out spots. We all know better, don't we? For the most part, the LTD ground balanced around 52 and I ran in bp mode, sen. of 85, disc of 0-4 and 3 and 4h tones. HH jim tn

Very nice hunting!

As you indicate, it is fun hunting behind those who disc out all the tabs and below. Though I don't think I'd enjoy hunting behind you!
Cheers,

Beautiful finds Jim. I'm still waiting for a gold ring.
I'm glad to see you escaped the colder weather for a bit.

Way to go. Its like 15 degrees here in upstate NY, I'd take mid 50's any day. Your finds really got me itching for spring time- sometimes it warms up in late March, early April, I cant wait CO

Not doubt, you're the man.
I too had a good day Saturday. All but finding out my Killerbees head phone had a short in the cord. Now I'm wondering how many targets I didn't hear when the short was open.
Very nice post and finds. Keep them coming.

:thumbup:Way to go jmtn, wondered how your trip was going.Just gives more faith in the LTD at 'pounded parks' haha ....hh rick in mi.

Looks like you had fun in the Sun, and some decent detecting to boot.

Thanks everyone. rick, the LTD really worked to peak performance for me. Many targets in that sandy soil were quite deep. It wasn't un-common to dig 70's era coins 7, 8 and 9" deep. Funny how that all goes. Most of the silver, Buffs and IH coins, were 5-8" deep. I dug 1 69 quarter that was all of 10." The silver ring was at least 7" and pretty black when it first came out of the ground. It gave an 86/87 reading. Most coins actually locked on pretty good if they weren't to slanted or on edge. The LTD is a killer for getting on edge coins. The ground down there is pretty tame. GB was around 52 when I was sure I had a clear spot. Frequency shift came into play, too, as I had power lines on the ends or nearby all spots. Anybody want to hook up in a few days with me down there, I will be ready. LOL HH jim tn
