I've been waiting for almost a week for a copy of the receipt from my local dealer so that I can send the Omega back to the States for a minor adjustment. might have to give them another ring tomorrow.
Anyway, I wasn't going to wait any longer, so took the Omega out to my favourite spot just late this afternoon. The site is a fairly clean site, so hunting was made fairly easy. It also allowed me to swing a bit faster. It was a fun hunt and although I haven't been able to get out with the Omega much, it was good to get good audio feedback and I've also been noticing the last couple of times I've used it, how the audio fade on the pinpoint alerts you to what's under the coil. Coins seem to give off a fairly sharp audio fade that occurs just after the receive (inner) coil passes over the target. (Larger coins can get a faint signal back for a little bit once the transmit coil passes over it.) Larger targets seem to give off a noticeably longer trailing pinpoint and seem to keep hang on to the signal for ages. Once I get the detector back, it will be very interesting to see what this little beast can do! So you guess I could say that I'll be prepared for a repaired detector hunt in a month or so.

not sure if this is what you're talking about since i haven't used the omega. on some detectors that you push a button or switch to pinpoint if the battery is getting low the pinpoint sound fades very quickly

The fade that I'm referring to; is when you pull the coil back towards yourself and the signal breaks off as the target passes out of the field of the coil. It was one of the redeeming qualities of the Garrett Ace, which also had an elliptical concentric coil. On the Ace, it was a fairly reliable (not perfect) way of IDing targets. I hope and suspect that the Omega (of which it's standard coil is also an elliptical concentric) can do the same trick.

i've heard others talk of pinpointing that way but this is the first time i've heard of it being used to i.d. the target. i would think that all coils could be used to pinpoint that way but i'm not sure about the i.d.

I've only ever found that it work on elliptical concentric coils. I've tried it with round concentric and DD coils, but they don't seem to offer the same info. I have noticed that my Explorer gives off a similar trailing signal when in detect mode though.
