Washington state trade token.

This is my best trade token and it originated in a place called Moscow Washington which is all gone now. Not sure how many of these tokens are out there, but I have been offered $125 for it sight unseen. I think I will hold onto it for awhile.........:) I found this token at an old school yard about 350 miles away from where the town use to be. I did a little research and from what information I could find out these two fellows Haines & Folsom owned a saloon and billiard hall in Moscow back in the late 1890's. HH.

I didn't know what I had until I got back to my trailer. Just goes to show that every now and then you will find some treasure in all the clad that you dig. I did clean it up, but like you say, it is in really nice shape and it didn't take much to shine her up a little. I heard that back in the early days that guys had these machines that stamped out tokens and when a new town sprung up they would go there and make tokens for the different businesses. Probably a good business to be in back then............:) HH.

Nice Token Eddie!!!!! Don't sell it for a $125 it's worth more than that. The town of Moscow is rated on a scale of 1 to 10 in rarity with 10 the rarest and that's a 10 for Moscow. I believe only about 9 to 11 are known and that's the only token shown for the old town of Moscow. The town was established in 1890 the name was later changed to Bluestem in 1906, the actual token itself is rated R-7 and due to the rarity of Moscow increases it's value substantially.

Where the heck have you been jb? Did you find some glory hole like Bruce and not sharing it with anyone?.............:) I was offered $150 for that token today, but if what you say as being a rare one then I may just hold onto it for awhile...........:)

Eddie

Remind me and I'll bring the Wa. State Token Book to the next meeting and show you the info on tokens including the one you posted. Didn't find any glory hole and haven't been out at all. Wife just got back from N.M. after 8 days and I was busy taking care of the animals and doing other catch up jobs. Been getting the Motor home ready and had to pull the couch out and have the seams redone on it. Just got it back in today and she said something about getting the ins. reinstated for summer. Might just be getting close to time to hit a few out of town spots with the MH for a few days. Some of the finds being posted are not going to be found here where I'm at. Last time out was the club hunt so it's been awhile, my buddy took off for a 7 day cruise yesterday and when he gets back will head South for 2 wks. after the OPTH club mtg. He won't be here for the other club mtg. Thanks for the concern.

Nice token you have there. I would hang onto that token myself. I have around 250 different tokens myself and the only way I get rid of any of them is if I have duplicates. Some people think it is a bad thing to keep the tokens since more and more tokens are being found. This will bring down the price of the token if found in quantity. It is good to sell tokens when you get a good price for them, but I choose to keep mine. I find them interesting and fun to collect. Again, Great find and hope that token increases in value with age.

Glad that all is okay with you. Okay, you are reminded to bring your token book to our next meeting...........:) My wife is getting hyped up about going camping also. Lee took me out last Sunday to a couple of places he has hit pretty hard and all I found was a 1954 license plate!! Thanks Lee!!!!!!...........:) Chuck offered me $125 for my token, but just like another guy in Tacoma, they seemed too eager to buy it from me............:) Take care and I'll see you at the meeting next month.

Thanks James. Like jb said in his post, my token probably rates as a rare one and it's probably worth more than $125. It's kind of funny, but with all the gold rings I have found and some with diamonds in them I somehow find it hard to sell or get rid of any of them. I don't have any old coins of any value to speak of, but what I have found are priceless in my book and it's nice to have them and just look at them from time to time. You certainly do have me beat with your total token count. I have only found two so far. My other one is a Johnson's dairy token good for a 1/2 pint of cream...............:) HH.

Eddie

Here is some pictures of my dairy token. Not as good as shape as my Moscow token..........:) I just noticed that there is a phone number on the token. I'll see if I can find any old main phone numbers on the internet and see if I can find out just where this Johnson's dairy use to be................:)
HH.

Eddie

Thanks............:) I have only found two tokens to date and hopefully as long as I can keep swinging a coil I might just find another one one of these days..........:) HH.

Hi Eddie,

They are nice looking tokens, congrats, I don't know what it's like over there, but here in Australia token collecting is almost as big as coin collecting, there are literally masses of them and some worth a lot of money.

All the best.....Boony

Thanks Boony. I'm sure there are token collectors galore here in the states as well. Just about every little town or saloon that sprang up more than likely had trade tokens made for their customers to use instead of cash. HH.

I think that token is called a Maverick Token. It probably doesn't have much value to it but they are fun to find. Let me know if you find anything out about that token. It would be something to find the location of where it was used so you know what town and such. And I am sure that there would be more of them in that town for sure. Good Luck Eddie and hope you find some info.

You are probably right about it not having much value, but it was kind of neat to find and at least for a "good for" token you knew what you could get with it. My Moscow token was good for 12&1/2 cents and back then you could probably get a nice steak dinner and a beer for that amount..........:) I haven't found out anything on the dairy token, but I'll keep looking and if I find out anything I will let you know.HH.
