I am looking for a good Tesoro Water Detector..I will be doing mostly shore and up to waist,,no diving..Also I will only be in fresh water lakes..I own a Minelab Sovereign GT and a Tesoro Cortes...I think Tesoro makes a Great Machine and with the warranty how could you beat it..I don't know if a PI-Pulse machine would be better or what..I've checked out the Sand Shark and like it but not sure..Also I've looked at others like Whites but I keep going back to Tesoro...Can some of the Members that water detect let me know ASAP....Thanks..John.......

You mention Whites,,, The OLD Whites Surfmaster II was and still is a very good fresh water detector.. I used one for 15 years. They don't make it any more. The beach hunter I D has no disc.. I tried one. Sold it. Got me a Tesoro Tiger Shark. I really love it. I have the 8" coil. I like a smaller coil. Just a little more sensitive to smaller gold. Easier to move around in the water. Better for pinpointing. I hope what little I said might help... KEN

Another vote for the Tiger Shark! I use the 10" coil for more depth and coverage. It it is there the Tiger will find it. Excellent build quality and very sensitive. I will never part with mine. Another good thing is the coil is not bouyant so you aren't trying to push it down all the time. The coil stays down and slices through the water like a hot butter knife. If you will be hunting any of the fresh water near me, please do not get one, stick to the land!!!!!

Sorry to say there is no really good do all detector. The Beach Hunter Id is more expensive, but has dual frequency and that is a plus. From what I have read the beach hunter works great, but what turned me off was the fact that people were having problems with the coils being to bouyant and their arm would get sore trying to force that bouyant coil down. What was the fix? Add weight to the top of the coil. I know Whites makes good detectors, but come on, that is just idiotic! The newer beach hunter's are suppose to have a neutrally bouyant coil, but again I read they want to float. So Whites makes a super detector and can't get the coil right??? I can't believe they are that stupid. Buy the Tiger Shark.
The disc. on the Tiger Shark in my opinion is not ideally suited for dry land for my hunting style. I own a Silver uMax for land and like to set the disc. just past pulltab and cherry pick coins. The disc. settings on the Tiger Shark don't seem to lend themselves to this very well, at least not in my experience. The beach hunter ID from what I have read is not bad on land with it's tones and indicator lights.
In looking for the best detector for both land and water as much as it pains me say this, and I mean pains me to say it- Maybe the Garrett AT Pro.
Another option would be to go the route I went and get a Tiger Shark and a Silver uMax for less than the Beach Hunter ID. This way you would have land and water well covered.
If you are leaning towards the Beach Hunter ID, go to the Whites forum and ask the guys there if the bouyant coil problem has been fixed before buying one. If it didn't have that problem I would have easily bought one and tried it as a dual use machine.

I had a whites beach hunter id. I could not sell it fast enough . I hated that thing. The large coil,, Too heavy.. Just did not like it. Sorry if I sound real bad,.. Many years ago I had a whites surfmaster II. I used it for many years. It found my many gold and silver rings. It paid for itself every year. I wanted to up date to a new one .
