water hunting in lakes...

Czhunter

New member
Getting a cz21, and wanting to hit some lakes where everyone swims. I'd like to be able to be under water, but dont have the money for all the scuba gear, and lessons and what not.

Thought about using a snorkle with maybe a 10 foot hose atached to a float.
Any thought would be appreciated. .

I do most of my detecting in the lakes around here in MO and have looked into a hookah system for diving in shallow water. From what I have found they are all pretty expensive and I

Dont do it :surprised: its a recipe for disaster, the problem would be expelling the volume of all the expelled air out of the hose with every breath so fresh air could be inhaled! so much could go wrong and it would be fatal, in theory it could be done with twin hoses and non return valves so one hose always expelled air and the other only ever brought in fresh.....but is it worth it, invest in a hookah system or scuba gear and do it properly, its not worth the risk.
good luck in your hunting, but stay safe to live and hunt another day

At 10' the minute you open your mouth on the hose to breath, all the air in your lungs will be sucked out. At that depth there would be a negative 5 psi suction on the hose, and you cannot overcome that. Please don't try it. Try a snorkel and learn a little about free diving!

AS STATED BY OTHERS DON'T DO IT YOU WILL END UP DEAD! I had the same idea years ago and was warned by scuba divers. Most rings are lost from waist to nipple depth. Put your swimming trunks and hit the water! We are glad you asked and please stay safe!

You won't be able to blow the air out of a tube that long, so after a few minutes you will only be breathing the same air again and again and will blackout due to inhaling to much carbon dioxide. Get in to wading in the lakes first, it's much cheaper, you'll still find loads of goodies and you can save up for scuba kit. Good luck :)

WaderMike is absolutely correct. Do Not Try It. It could very easily KILL You!!! With that length of hose you would not be getting in air that had not already been in your lungs and the carbon dioxide would build up to the point that you would be getting No oxygen. No oxygen and you would pass out and drown.

Well...it sounded good on paper! It is a good thing you posted...thats why snorkles are only as long as they are, the Human diaphram doesnt have the muscle to "breath in" under even 3' of water through a tube. Water is just too heavy pushing down on your body.
Full disclosure: I once made a pair of wings out of plywood and jumped off the barn roof.

Funny....when I was a little kid, my sister used to watch marry poppins on t.v. ...you know the lady that flew around with an umbrella? My brother convinced me that if I were to jump off the roof with an umbrella we had I'd just float to the ground......that hurt!

I also want to take a diving class this year or learn to snorkel safely. The thing that concerns me with the fresh water lake or rivers I hunt is the visibility. It's dark water and you can't see about a foot most of the time. Hey mud, you and cz found out the same thing I did, it's not the takeoff that hurts, it's the landing. lol
