Rivers rat

New member
Dear Santa can we please get a Vista gold or Smart in waterproof version with the super 6 :)

It will be great i think and will put them ahead in the race :)

Happy new year to Team Deeptech!

I agree with you RR. All machines should be waterproof or at least splash proof. One of the reasons I still use my Fisher Cz 6a (bought new in 1991) is because I can hunt in the rain or on a saltwater beach with the salt mist and not worry about moisture killing my machine. Makes everything a lot easier to clean up at the end of a muddy day knowing that you can rinse the machine off with no worries about damage. I will happily pay extra for the waterproof box and waterproof coil connectors for peace of mind. How many days have people either not went detecting or chose a different detector that day because of the threat of rain? I have never been a fan of taping a gallon bag around a control box or buying a cover that is plastic wrapped that could leak in a downpour. Hard to make adjustments to the machine with a cover on it and see what you are doing. I love my Whites TDI for depth on relics, but it gets left at home on possibly rainy days. They never got what thousands of detectorists asked for, a waterproof box, just for these reasons. Sven got it though. He built a waterproof TDI type of detector in the Mirage PI. Maybe even improved on it with a fine gold mode and deeper large gold mode. Simply unscrew the waterproof headphone plug and screw the charger into the socket to charge. No worries about leaking ever and totally waterproof. Really all detector companies should be looking at Sven's design of waterproof box and contracting with him to make all their units light and 100% waterproof, and I really do not think it would add that much to the cost of their machines overall. Give it some serious thought Deeptech, Sven already loves your machine designs and his waterproof boxes are as good as any I have ever used...Just my humble opinion...Stuart

A Vista waterproof will be a serious competitor for AT ,stingray and tiger sharks.......mine is tapped to death and went i m putting it in the mud i m a bit worry about water getting into the battery box ....the cover i got is just about...........if i put more tape it become more complicated when i want to change the batteries...

Hadn't thought about that....too busy playing around building my PI's. Gearing up to build four more water units for 2016.

Technically I could waterproof a Vista Gold. Hate to say, wouldn't take long at this point. About 1/4 the way there now.
Just have to throw the circuit board in a waterproof box, change out some connectors. I already rewired my Gold control box,
I removed all the external control trimpots from the circuit board and mounted real pots on the faceplate with connectors.
Yeah, couldn't leave my Gold well enough alone. And that was not all. I swapped out the s-handle for a White's s-handle set-up
so I can use White's easily obtainable, inexpensive lower rods, etc. Have to customize my stuff ya know. I rear mount under the arm cuff
a headphone jack as well.
When you can't go hunting and the weather is bad, then its time to customize.
By the way the the pot mod works excellent. I can use my detector hand to adjust the pots, just like a Tesoro. This is one keeper of a machine.
I can get a bit finer adjustment as the external pots have some extra rotational travel.

Have to admit, a waterproof Vista Gold would be the top freshwater machine out there.....

Stop giving me ideas..................

WOW! You make mods look so easy Sven!... If Deeptech has no interest in hiring you to make a waterproof unit, then contact me with a PM. I would love to have a waterproof Vista Gold with the rechargeable battery pack like the Mirage uses, and of course the waterproof headphones. Lots of rivers and lakes around where I live. Sorry about giving you new ideas, but I do not think your mind ever rests anyway. Since I am asking for my wish list, and maybe this is only practical when building a new coil, would it be possible to build the outer most edge of a coil on a water machine so that it comes to a gradual edge (like this >) instead of the blunt edge of most coils whitch were designed for land machines. The sharper edge to the coil would cut through the water so very much easier than most coils and make swinging it in the water much less of a chore. Kind of like the thin printed circuit coils that the Tesoro Sand Shark has for an advantage without its weakness of being so thin that the coil wears out too fast and gets a pinhole in it causing it to short out quickly in saltwater. ...There you go Sven... Making me think again...

Rivers Rat, you would love Sven's waterproof mods. He does the best that I have used.
CwTrader1863, I like that idea too. Ok Sven. I think that will just about complete our dream machine. Can you help us out?...PLEASE??? I want to be on the list for the first machine available. Of course I already have the Vista Gold, so I would just ship mine to you to be modded. Now that would be an awesome fresh water machine!!!

Have to wait until I can clone myself.
I am about 6 projects behind at this point

I knew you would say something like that Sven. Truthfully, these companies, like Deeptech, Whites, Fisher, Makro,Tesoro, and all of the others should realize that you have the ability to move them to the top of their tier in their design catagory. I have used so many detectors in the last 30 years and only you and Minelab can say they have developed a quality detector in water of all the sectors that I have tried. Your Mirage PI is the best thought out of all machines ever. No reason that that waterproof design should not be used on any and all machines. But please do me the favor of making me a waterproof Vista Gold when you have the time. These guys should be thrilled to have your talent on their staff. You will make them a fortune, No matter who you contract with. But I reconize your ability now. You are the best at what you do...PERIOD...do not undersell yourself!!! Pay attention Deeptech! Sven can give you a great edge in this market. Make all machines waterproof. It would not make your machines that much more expensive. You could ask up to $200 dollars more for a watrproof detector over the original brand. I for one would pay for that. You should seriously look at his ability to move your company forward. The U.S. and Canadian markets could do well with this improvement as well as the rest of the world. Who could ever argue with the advantage of a waterproof machine? Sven is a positive influence as he truely loves your machines, Deeptech.,give him a reasonable chance and this man can add so much to your profitability. I am not in any way affiliated with any company. I only tell my thoughts and trueths as I see them. Make all detectors waterproof. Simple as that and you will have less repair problems. I love detecting and ask for what I percieve other detectorists would wasn't because that is what I want. Again, just my opinion...Stuart

White's is ready to release a new waterproof machine, the MX Sport. Speculation is a waterproof MXT.
This could possibly, probably put a big dent in other manufacturers VLF water machines sales. AS most designs are currently 10 years old or so
and performance is so-so. Guess finally White's has realized how good of a machine the MXT is due to its popularity and performance?
Or is the MXS something else? You may find a lot of cheap priced AT Pro up for sale........................

Lots of competition out there. Sports is a big part of life in the US.
Guess its a name marketing came up with................what's next the uniform and battle gear...

I'd rather be detecting and call it getting away from it all, relaxing and enjoying myself.

good read this thread

wish I had time to fiddle , did I just say that out loud

Sven what has to happen to get a deeptech to disc up to zinc ?? major or minor job?

I probably wouldn't use it that much but it sure would be nice to have up the sleeve :bouncy:
