We got to have our grand kids for the weekend and the sun was out. They wanted to go to a school playground about 4 miles from our house so we went. Anika wanted to take her detector along and try to find some stuff like Grandpa had found in VIrginia.
Anika is 7 and Zakary is 4 so an afternoon at the playground is fun no matter what happens. She has hunted the barkchips at this school before, but not for a year and a half. Her weapon of choice is a Tesoro Campadre.

Here she is a ready for a hunt! Notice the snow on the Butte? Spring is not coming very fast this year. She knows how to pose for the camera.
I left my detector in the car and just worked with her teaching her how to do it right and dig hole that could not be seen when filled. With every penny or dime she got very excited. Every once in a while she took a short break to slide down a slide or swing for a minute or two, but she was doing quite well swinging the little detector and digging up the goodies. She hit a good target and dug it up. Low and behold! A ring! I did not have my glasses or my magnifier with me so I asked her to look inside the band for marks. ( It sure looked like gold to me!) She said "Grandpa, it says 10 kt inside. What does that mean?" I was happier than even she was. I don't think that a three ringer would have been worth as much to me than that little 10 k ring. Way to go Anika!
We took a short break for a snack, hunting is hungry work you know. I laid out her finds on the little picnic table at the playground.

I took close up of her finds up to this time. On the upper left is her first gold.

She us now an official gold finding, metal detecting, honest to goodness treasure hunter. The first of what I hope will be many more finds with Grandpa.
