I took my two youngest boys with me and headed out to some sites along the Oregon trail. There is a lot of interesting history around here that is connected to that time period an some nice finds are still out there. I have a few myself.
We wanted to find and hunt an old school that had been shut down around WWII.

It was way out in the Boonies and within a half mile of the old trail. It was used to school the few ranchers kids that settled in this area. Looks good don't it?

The back of the school was grown over with poison ivy and alot of sage and rabbit brush. We hoped the ground would tell us a tale of the kids that went here.
We did hunt a little and found some goodies before the weather turned to rain and wind so we traveled along the trail looking for some more interesting history.

We came across this grave site with a story on it to tell.

Enlarge it to read the story for yourselves. I have studied this party's Indian trouble and it includes buried gold coins to the tune of $10,000 face value buried 25 miles from my house. It is on private posted property or we would have another story about his one!

This is the Snake River where the pioneers headed into the desert on their trip to Oregon. It is called Farewell Bend because this is where it got hot and dry as they said goodbye to the river they had been following for hundreds of miles. I know of a guy that has found some gold coins here. Nancy and I have hunted briefly here just once and found some cool bullets and tack. We need to hunt this one day in earnest.

This is a sign at the river that tell a little history of that spot. I took a lot of pictures on this trip and may post some more. This area is so close by that I did the whole day on 1/2 a tank of gas! DC
