Wear Plates

gave the GTI a good cleaning today and I noticed
the coil bottom is a bit scratched. I know it
wont affect performance (wll it?) but I dont lie
the looks.
Do the wear plates from Garett work?
Do they affect performance?

I may add one to my Christmas for Me list
along with a pro pointer. I figure i can use
the pointer more than a sniper coil.

I picked up a coil cover for my 550 this year and the only problem I noticed is if wet sand gets trapped in the cover it gets a little squirrely until you shut it off and turn it back on. Doesn't seem to affect depth or readings otherwise. I detect a lot of gravel areas, so I think it's definitely helping save the coil. Just gotta remove it now and then and clean everything up.

The covers work and add a little weight but you have to keep them cleaned out as they fill up with moisture and debris and cause falseing. Keep your coil off the ground when scanning and you can alleviate that problem.

It's a personal preference. The coils are built so tough I think it would be hard to break one. My coils are heavily used and they are chipped and scratched. They still work great.

Yeah I don't use them as they are a pain. One doesn't need one unless the coil is made out of cheap plastic or one uses it as a hammer or club. Garrett's poured resin coils are as tough as they come.
